Demon and Canine.

Demon:

Born from the world’s hate,

I am evil incarnate,

No cage will control me.

No fence can hold me,

I am the demon unleashed,

On your souls I will feast.

Looking out,

From behind this partition,

I see you,

Walking away like a fading apparition,

Leaving me here alone,

Abandoning me without a home,

If I could speak I’d ask you why,

But canine all I can do is howl and cry,

I gave you unconditional love,

But it was never enough,

Now,

From behind this partition,

I see you,

Walking toward me like I’m a welcome addition,

Knowing I won’t ever be alone,

Taking me back to your home,

If I could speak I’d ask you why,

But canine all I can do is bark and jump for joy,

I’ll give you my unconditional love,

Hoping it’ll be enough.

  1. What a contrast from one poem to the next, but I think they pair well together. I love reading your poetry. I adopted my German Shepherd from a shelter. We had to put Duchess to sleep when she was thirteen. I haven’t had a dog in about six years. It was so sad. I love this poem so much. She looked so sad when I first saw her. That place makes me so sad because I want to take them all home with me. I actually tried this once but my mom freaked out. I’m glad canine had a happy ending.
