Buried in the Water:

Buried in the Water:

Turning what was once alive to death,

The river runs deep,

It runs red,

Washing away our country’s sins,

In the genocide of war,

No soldier wins,

Erasing the slaughter,

Memories of the lost forever more,

Lay buried in the water.

    1. Ha, a book. Nah, I suppose if I wanted to be deep and meaningful I’d say ‘yes, it sure is’ but alas, it’s not and it’s just something I wrote after seeing the daily prompt was ‘water’ I thought ah, slaughter rhymes with water and rivers run red with blood and thus the poem was born from that. 😊

      1. You say book like it’s a bad thing. Haha! 😝 I thought of the Game of Thrones episode where Joffrey dies when I read this. What an episode, right? That’s why I thought maybe a book was your inspiration. I think this might be one of my favorites and now you crushed my hope that this had some deep meaning to it. πŸ˜‚ I’m kidding. Maybe. But I’m surprised this one was so easy to write because I really do like it. Rivers run red? You crack me up with your grimdark madness. πŸ˜‰ Because naturally, all rivers run red with blood. Of course, I should have known that. Duh! Like the elevator scene from The Shining.

  1. Oh that Game of Thrones episode was awesome, Joffrey was such an annoying twerp I was glad to see him get his! πŸ˜‚

Ha, The Shining was years before Grimdark so rivers have been running red for years! πŸ˜‚

There’s always at least abit of meaning in what I write, some more than others granted. 😊

    1. That was probably one of my favorite episodes of TV ever. Joffrey was such a pain in the ass. After what he did to Ned and Sansa, I literally stood and clapped as he died. I think I yelled at the TV, too, like I was at a boxing match. I’m such an animal. 😝 I still smile when I think about it. Like right now. Forgive me, I’m evil and there’s no cure. Sorry, not sorry. Haha! πŸ˜‡ You can’t mention a river of blood and not think about The Shining. That’s a quality movie. I can tell your poetry has at least some meaning that’s why I was shocked you said not so much with this poem. If you start writing happy stuff, I’ll start wondering about you. πŸ€” Wouldn’t that be funny though if one day you posted a poem about rainbows or flowers just to get a reaction out of people? I would die! That would be hilarious. I could see me doing something like that for the hell of it. Too bad my poetry sucks. It’s about as deep as a bathtub.

    1. How goes Sarcastic Enigma Loves Butterflies?? Oh and I’ve decided to test the theory out so I accept your challenge to write a happy poem though what I’ve wrote is not very happy and is more childlike and funny but I’m unsure whether I dare post it or not, I may lose all my followers and get banned for posting such drivel! πŸ™‚ It’s got an awesome name though!

      1. I have to admit it’s not going well. πŸ˜‚ I honestly can’t even remember the last time I saw a butterfly in person to write about one. I’m not feeling inspired. When I think of you, I think of bloody rivers and thunderstorms. And of course, howling winds. So maybe the butterfly gets blown away by the wind you hate so much, it starts raining, and it ends up in a river of blood. 😝 I have no idea how to write a damn poem about butterflies. I’m not that kind of chick. I will force myself to write something no matter how awful it is. I accept your challenge! Knowing my followers, they would just laugh and tell me whatever I choose is cool because I’m cool. 😎 My followers rock! I stole that from Ab Fab by the way. Do it, do it! I want to read it. I doubt you’ll lose your followers. I’m sure the women who comment will be like, aww, Drew, this is so beautiful and amazing, and I love your sensitive side, blah, blah, blah. You would not get banned. You can just tell them you wrote it under duress because some crazy American chick made you do it on a dare and that you’re not a punk, so that’s why you wrote it. There you go! Problem solved. Blame it all on me. What’s the name? I’m dying to know. Is it Crazy American Girl? Cause that would be so awesome. Haha!
