Rapid Fire Book Tag.

Thanks to Jen over at Combustible Reviews for tagging me for this. As always, after reading this why not hop on over and give her blog a peruse, it’s worth your time. 🙂

post-21026-Bender-upvote-gif-machine-gun-2BPb

As I couldn’t find an image for the actual tag you can all have an image of Bender from Futurama rapidly firing! 🙂

So, onwards to the questions, but before that, first another gif:

Tag Questions:

 E-Book or Physical Book?

I prefer physical books, there’s just something about holding a proper book in your hands and feeling the weight of it while you are reading. Though, if asked in October time and afterwards when summer is but a distant memory, sunshine is a word that’s been replaced with wind and rain, the nights are getting longer and it’s woe poor me as it’s dark when trying to read.Well, then I’ll probably be praising my Kindle Paperwhite as I can read in the dark with it!

Paperback or Hardback?

Hardback, those bad boys are sturdier, no creased spines with a hard back! And, if anyone gives you grief for reading, while I haven’t done it myself I might add, I can imagine a smack upside the head with a hardback will hurt far more than with a paperback to who ever is being annoying! 🙂

Online or In-Store Book Shopping?

Online, it’s cheaper and far easier to order and have the book delivered straight to your door! Also, with the genres I like poor fantasy is the much aligned outcast only being given very little shelf space and a very lacklustre selection. And, I live in a dingy back water little town with a crummy little book shop (unfortunatley, I’m not being my usual sarcastic self, it really isn’t very good at all) and a WHSmiths which is really overpriced, I have to save the pennies!

Trilogies or Series?

I don’t mind! Some of my favourite books are in trilogies but equally some of my favourite books are part of a series to. There’s some great fantasy trilogies out there and also some great fantasy series and I’m happy with either!

Heroes or Villains?

Well, I’m going to steal Jen’s answer from Combustible Reviews here and go with anti-hero to. Though…….technically Jen is a girl so shouldn’t she have been a anti-heroine??? 🙂

I’m not evil enough to be a villain and they always lose anyway so where’s the fun in that! And, I’m certainly not a stereotypical hero either, the knight in shining armour or depending on your viewpoint the tosser in tin foil. So, anti-hero, I’ll save you while I watch the world burn and have sarcastic quips to make along the way, one hell of a ride if a somewhat uncomfortable journey, yep, sounds about right for me!

A book you want everyone to read?

jc

Jakob’s Colours by Lindsay Hawdon. You can find my review !!HERE!! It’s a book that focuses on the Romany/Gypsy holocaust during the second World War and is an emotional, harrowing and thought provoking read that follows one families journey through decades and countries. It’s perhaps not a book you would expect to see my recommend but I think everyone should read it as it really brings to light the plight of the Romany people.

Recommend an underrated book?

December Park by Ronald Malfi. It’s a part coming of age, part mystery tale set in America during the early 1990’s. No-one seems to have heard of it but I absolutely love this book. Great characters, great story, well paced, well written with emotion and humour, it’s a quality read that deserves more recognition.

The last book you finished?

Closed Casket (Hercule Poirot Mystery 2) by Sophie Hannah. I reviewed it yesterday for those who may have missed it and the link can be found !!HERE!!

The Last Book You Bought?

It’s been a while since I had to buy myself a book and the last book I bought was City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin.

Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?

Hhhmmm, A dog toy! Well, I had a dog, she had toys, my dog used to lay on the sofa while I read, her toys would be left strewn across the carpet, if I couldn’t find the bookmark (cos I misplaced it, not because I’m old and forgetful) one of them would have been the easiest thing to hand – yes, my dog had a lot of toys, she was a spoilt pampered pooch.

Used Books: Yes or No?

Yes, though not many but I have acquired myself a few, one of the best would probably be my near mint copy of the original American hardback copy of The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch for 20p!

Top Three Favourite Genres?

Grimdark, Fantasy and Post-Apocalyptic.

Borrow or Buy?

Buy. I don’t like borrowing stuff. But can I add another to???? Free!!!! Free is always the best!

Characters or Plot?

Both, you need a good plot and story likewise you also need characters that pull you in and you care about.

Long or Short Books?

Long. Well, I’m a fantasy fan, most books in that genre are big hefty tomes so I’ve really got to answer long haven’t I! Though…………as the old saying goes, size doesn’t matter!

Long or Short Chapters?

I’m not to fussed really but if the chapters are for each characters POV (like Game of Thrones) then I’d rather they were shorter.

Name The First Three Books You Think Of…

1 – Under the Dome by Stephen King – great book, shocking ending! 😦

2 – Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie.

3 – The Wheel of Osheim by Mark Lawrence, review can be found !!HERE!!

Books That Make You Laugh or Cry?

I’ll go with cry, well, shed a tear as I’m a male and we don’t cry! And, Fool’s Errand (The Tawny Man Trilogy Book 1) by Robin Hobb. If anyone has read it then all I need to mention is Nighteyes! But for everyone else, the book contains what I believe to be one of the most beautifully written, poignant and heartbreaking sections in fantasy.

Our World or Fictional Worlds?

Fictional. Well, I’m not going to get a Dragon, a Wolven or a Dire Wolf in our world now am I! 😦

Audiobooks: Yes or No?

I don’t like audiobooks, audio is for music, books are for reading!

Do You Ever Judge a Book by its Cover?

Yep, I think everyone of us is guilty of that!

Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?

I think both can be good and likewise both can be bad. The Green Mile is a great book to movie adaptation and Game of Thrones is a great book to TV adaptation. Then there’s countless crap ones ofeach out there!

A Movie or TV-Show You Preferred to its Book?

The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo – the original sub-titled version though the Hollywood version with Daniel Craig isn’t to bad. I enjoyed the film but only got about half way through the book itself.

Series or Standalone’s?

Series, I’m a fantasy fan, most are series!

OK, I’m going to tag:

And also, the Potty Pals:

  1. LOL’d all the way into the subway tunnel reading your answers as per usual smh. Thank you for tagging me, I was actually looking for something to post & none of the Wednesday meme’s were appealing today. I covet thy copy of The Lies of Locke Lamore *squints through one eye*

  2. Boobies McGulp? I told you my Bond girl name is Trixie Hardcox. But I guess that one is just as weird as mine. 😂 Yay for the picture from DuckTales! That was my show back in the day. We’re old, huh? Haha! Like who even knows that show? Lol. This was an interesting tag. So I guess you’d be hitting me with paperbacks then. 😂 You make me laugh silly Brit boy. Tosser in tinfoil? 😂 And you even went there on size doesn’t matter. Yes! That’s awesome! Size doesn’t matter…said no woman. 🙊 I suppose I will do your tag. I’m really liking Donna and Anne’s new names. 🙌

      1. Duh! Who didn’t love DuckTales? I was singing the theme song in my head when I saw it. I still am. 🤗 I know what tosser in tinfoil means, love. 🙂 But it’s cute when you explain all your Brit words and phrases to me. 😘 Now, if I made a comment about size in my post, I bet you’d have fun with that one. 😂

      2. Nope! We’re old peeps who watched Transformers and Smurfs and The Flintstones and shows no one would know about now. Well, now they know the movies for Transformers. That sounds like a challenge to add to my tag. Size does matter…That’s what she said. 😂 Hmm… There’s more I could add to that but would probably be best if I save it for you in email. 😂 Haha! I can’t wait to see Donna and Anne’s reactions to your names. 🤗

      3. Yeah, I hate that! Those remakes are horrifying. Just no… Like who had the stupid idea to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street when no one other than Robert Englund should ever be allowed to play that character? Ugh, you have no idea how unnerved I get about Freddy. That’s my favorite 80s series that I’m crazy about and was ready to break the screen over that remake. 😂

  3. The Smutty Waffle. Me likey. But… Poor Anne 😂
I can kill a guy with a paperback as much as with a hardback, and it’s easier to hide after.
So you like them used, eh? :p
Size doesn’t matter. Ha. Ha. Ha.

  4. You are way too funny!! Thanks for tagging me! I definitely prefer series rather than standalones. I also enjoyed the original Girl With The Dragon Tattoo vs. the US version. The Lies of Locke Lamora, I’ve been looking for that specific cover!!!!! AHH!!

      1. Odd isn’t it?! It’s like we’ve been talking about Miley Cyrus last night and poof! 😉 *cough, cough*. No, it definitely isn’t Jill’s :’). Oh man, I’ve got too much time on my hands this morning :’D

      2. Furthermore, hail Kindle Paperwhite! I see hubby struggling with a night light when it’s too dark to read on his regular Kindle and feel blessed every time (besides it being entertaining to watch 😉 ) . And not finding any proper Fantasy in bookstores is just ridiculous! If they ever have any of it over here, it’s in Dutch, in a quiet dark corner of shame, next to the glorious shiny 50 shelves of smut :’). Lol @ dog toys! I believe if I used one of mine, my dog would claim the book and that would be the end of it :O.
I’ll refrain from fouling up your comment section with vulgar puns and stuff ;). Thanks for the tag! ^^
