The Cookie Book Tag:

dbceqqem792uc

I was tagged by Lilly over at Lair Of Books for the cookie book tag, if you don’t already then after reading this tag hop on over and visit her blog as it’s well worth your time. Also, sorry Lilly but that gif is awesome so I had to steal it from your own tag! 🙂

As written in the hallowed rules, found just below, the creator of this tag is Nicole from Sorry, I’m Booked

Rules:

  • In addition to linking back to the person who tagged you, it would be awesome if you link back to Nicole’s original post!
  • Pick a book that corresponds to the cookie’s ‘theme’.
    Have fun!
  • Tag 1 to 3 people.

Right, so for those of you unaware I’m from the UK and while we have cookies, there always seems to be a debate between the UK and the US on biscuits/cookies. So, to show my patriotic side I welcome you to the Biscuit Tag:

libertine_foxs_940x528

Chocolate Chip: A classic book that you love or really enjoyed (Interpret classic how you want, it can be a classic written 100 years ago or 20 years ago).

draclege

  • Dracula by Bram Stoker.
  • I Am Legend by Richard Matheson.

Both of these are stunning books and certainly ‘true classics’ that deserve to be read!

I read Dracula in 2012 after I got my first Kindle, the classics are free and it gave me the chance to read some of them. I’d always thought Dracula was cool ever since seeing the 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula with Gary Oldman and Keanu Reeves but had never gotten around to reading the book, I know, it’s shameful isn’t it, however the Kindle changed that and I’m so glad it did as this is definitely a worthy classic that everyone should read. It’s free people, no excuse, here are the links to download it: Amazon UK  /  Amazon US.

I am Legend, now a lot of you may not have read the book but will have seen or heard of the Will Smith film. The film, isn’t bad and is watchable but…….the book is a lot better, a true classic, released in 1954 – yes, it’s that old, the same year as my mother’s birth actually! Some aspects of the book do come across as dated, mainly the technology but it’s refreshing to read a book set before all modern technology appeared and doesn’t detract from the story at all. Quite a few things were changed in the Will Smith film so even if you didn’t enjoy that I would recommend that you give the book a go, it’s well worth your time.

Thin Mints: A fandom that you really want to ‘join’ and/or a hyped-up book you want to read (your source(s) of a book being hyped can be from anywhere).

wow_pic

I’m not really one for fandom’s but I’m going with The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin – A Song of Ice and Fire Book 6. Alas, there isn’t even a cover for it yet! Fans have been awaiting it’s release for ages now and the release date still doesn’t seem to be on the horizon, 2017? 2018? Who knows? By the sounds of it not even George himself seems to know, unless it’s all a ruse and dastardly ploy and the book will actually have a surprise release in the near future? Doubtful, but you never know!

IF the lack of a cover disappointed you then here’s the J.R.R. Tolkien v George R.R. Martin rap battle! It’s freaking awesome and is well  funny!!!!!!! – when I checked the video was working, if it isn’t now then blame wordpress!

Shortbread: An author you can’t get enough of.

Mark Lawrence:

broken empire trilogy

red queens war trilogy

Every book that Lawrence has written has been a quality read and he is an author that seems to get better and better with each book!

Samoas/caramel Delites: An emotional roller coaster (this cookie was hard so any book that made you feel more than one emotion, strongly. The choice of emotions is up to you).

The Green Mile by Stephen King:

tgm

A book that takes you through a range of emotions and is a truly stunning read and yet another masterpiece by Mr King. The film with Tom Hanks is great but the book is even better, again, it’s a book that everyone should read in my humble opinion.

Oreos: A book whose cover was better than the story or vice versa, where the story was better than its cover.

Forsaken Skies by D. Nolan Clark.

fs

A really smart and quality looking cover with the various different hues of blue but alas, the book failed to live up to the cover and was an utter disappointment. A far more detailed reasoning behind my displeasure with the book can be found in my review !!HERE!!

Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties: A book that wasn’t what you expected (good, bad or just different, interpret how you wish).

All You Need Is Kill By Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

allkill

This is the book that inspired the Tom Cruise film Live Die Repeat: Edge Of Tomorrow. While both the book and film share some basic concepts they are actually very different and in their own right are both good. I went into this thinking that it would be just like the film and when it wasn’t it really surprised me but in a good way as I got a completely different experience to watching the movie.

Snickerdoodles: A book you may never stop rereading/loving.

Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb:

asssapp

Anyone who read my post: Top 10 Fantasy Trilogies you should read! Will know of my love for Robin Hobb, she is an amazing fantasy author who has created one of the best ever fantasy characters in Mr Misery himself FitzChivalry Farseer and also one of the best ever world in the Six Duchies. This is the first book in The Farseer Trilogy and as such introduces us to Fitz for the very first time starting us on his journey and our journey with him. Most definitely a book that I will be rereading in the future and a book that I always recommend and won’t stop loving.

  1. First of all, that is the most intense cookie gif I’ve ever seen… or shall I say biscuit…? Eh, I’m American I’ll say cookie. I haven’t read many classics but last year around Halloween time, I decided to pick up Dracula, and I loved it. I haven’t seen any of the Dracula movies (heck, I haven’t even seen any vampire movies). I’m only on the third Song of Ice and Fire book, so I’m not yet waiting for the 6th book.Ha! I didn’t know that they had GRRM vs. JRRT rap battle! I’ll have to watch that! That’s a brilliant idea. Haha, at first I read ‘Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hood’, then I had to re-read it cause it didn’t seem right… Great tag!

    1. Ah, the third book is still good but unfortunately the fourth and fifth not so much but I’m hoping that the sixth will bring it all back to being really good.

It really is a awesome rap battle, it could just be my sense of humour but damn it’s funny! 😂

Ha, I’m glad you re-read it as it could have said Robin Hood as I did write Brain for Brian on a previous post! 😀

  2. Well Drew that was a good blog post and a fantastic Gif on the Top , but I’ll like to take issue with one of your statement in the blog … and since it’s got to do with my “Fandom” , I will like to scold you for the misinformation of the facts . THERE IS A BOOK COVER FOR “WINDS OF WINTER” , it’s on goodreads, it’s on my Desktop, laptop, tablet, and Cell phone wallpaper and I’m staring at it everyday

    1. Sigh, oh Dr Rash, for shame, you have pointed out my mistake, well good sir, to save face I shall say that I was unsure of the cover as well, the release date of the book keeps changing so I thought that maybe the cover would change again before it’s release. 😂

      1. Gasps! 😱

        Don’t say that !!!

Don’t take away the ONE thing , that’s keeping my hopes for this book alive …😭

      2. BTW just saw that Rap battle , it’s Amazing , J.R.R Tolkien won it fair and square in my opinion , but that Foot-fetish line by GRRM was epic 😀

  3. The Biscuit Tag, I love it! & that GIF is priceless & should be shared LOL. Great answers Drew! Dracula is on my list of classics I must read, thanks for the link I will most certainly make use of it. Book 6 in the A Song of Ice and Fire series NEEDS to be written, I’ve heard rumors that a date has been set for 2017 & I’m hoping that this is true. I’d like to finish this series before kicking the ol’ bucket. My husband has experienced a roller coaster of emotions while waiting on this one as well smh, it can get ugly when he mopes lol. Mark Lawrence! I keep getting him as a recommended author to check out but have never seen the covers to his books which look In one word…DOPE! making this a priority. The Green Mile…this where I hide my face because I have neither watched the movie nor read the book. My husband gives me a disappointed look each & every time I mention it, I can only promise to do better. Maybe i’ll read the book before watching the movie to compare. Lastly I feel like I already know Fitz because I follow & watch so many SFF lovers who rave about Ms. Hobb, I now have book 1 on my Kindle app. This is def gonna happen sooner rather than later 😉

    1. Ha, I have to represent the UK as we fail at most things hence biscuits!😀

Yeah, I’ve heard the 2017 date to, though I’m cynical and I’d hazard a guess that this time last year we were hearing a 2016 release date for the damn book! 😂

Hobb is definitely an author to rave about.

Sigh, I have to agree with your husband, for shame as both the book and the film are awesome! 😢

Lawrence is a great author to, even Jill liked Prince of Thorns! 😂

      1. 😂😂😂 biscuits it is then! I’m doubtful about 2017 being the real deal but foolishly I hold out hope smh🙈 I do remember seeing Jill mention she was loving Lawrence, it being a proper book & all haha! I’m definitely watching the Green Mile, I think a part of me knows that it’s going to break me & that’s why I shy away from it but I’ll woman up for it 😉

      2. Ha, ‘women up’ politely put, you have a point though as there are some emotional bits in the film and the book.😂

Well, last I checked, before I did the tag old Georgy hasn’t even finished writing the book yet, he should stop doing rap battles and focus on writing! 😂

  4. I love that you changed the name of the tag. You’re such a rebel! 😂 The old cookie biscuit debate. Lol For whatever reason, my phone doesn’t play any embedded videos, so I’ll have to wait until I get home to watch the video on my computer, but it looked hilarious from what I saw. Your cover for Assassin’s Apprentice is so much nicer than mine. I am not a fan of the US cover at all. Our covers for Mark Lawrence appear to be the same. I think he probably has some of the best fantasy covers. Dracula is a good book. I love how he’s always there but not actually there, sort of like IT, if that makes sense. And I’m so glad there’s a King sighting on this list. The Green Mile is brilliant! What an amazing book! Salem’s Lot will always be my favorite, but both the movie with Tom Hanks and the book are awesome. 🙌 I have I think 3 or 4 King books on my list for tomorrow’s post. 🙂

  5. Okay, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is the shit. Gary Oldman is THE SHIT. He’s the only Dracula for me! ❤ I saw the movie before reading the book as well and ended up loving them both! The whole diary POV is pretty awesome.

*sighs* Winds of Winter. What to say, what to say. Shire-raq, though :') :'). Hilarious! Thank you for the tag! I like cookies :3

      1. Gawd, tell me about it…”Oh Mina, my love…[insert 😐 face]”. I love Keanu but that’s probably mostly because I’m a woman. Winona Ryder was pretty hot in it though as well 😉

      1. But…but, I’m not British either! XD I was thinking of doing a YouTube video for the Banned Books week but I can’t decide which accent I should go for…they will both be horrible :’)

  6. Drew! Drew!! Drew!!! This post was awesome, but that damn video ❤ Oh I am at a loss.. it is the greatest thing since sliced bread!!! "You're a pirate, you even stole me RR". I think I have to share it on my FB page. Proud to be an unsuspecting victim.

  7. I’m in LOVE with that cookie monster gif, it’s so intense but cute at the same time. I haven’t read Dracula but I really should, especially since it’s free on the kindle! You’ve persuaded me to read it soon 🙂
I know a lot of people are excited for Winds of Winter and I would be too but I just started book one in Game of Thrones. I have a while until I get to Winds of Winter.

  8. I have never read Dracula, should I be ashamed? :p I saw I Am Legend at the theatre, and I was the only idiot who answered to Will Smith when he asked someone to say hello to him. I received pop corn from annoyed people xD And then I cried because of the *spoiler* I did not know there was a book!
Oh, and I’m on the cookie side, biscuit sounds too French for me!

  9. I sersiouly need to pick up Robin Hobb’s books about Fitz! Somehow I gone my whole reading life without hearing about them until I started to blog. The same goes for Mark Lawrence. This tag was brilliant!! 🙂
