Friday Face-Off · Various Things

Friday Face-Off 28th October 2016.

The Friday Face-Off is a new meme created by Books by Proxy, where the idea is to compare the UK and US covers of a book with each week  being a certain theme, this week’s theme is: “And I Jack, The Pumpkin King!” a cover for Halloween.

For the theme this week I have chosen: The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury.

With 14 different covers to choose from I found it hard to pick just one winner! Such a range of choices! 🙂 So instead I have chosen the three that really standout to me.

  1. Wow – what a fabulous array of covers you have here:). Congratulations – it’s great book choice for the time of year! I’m going to plump for A – while there are a number of really slick, strong contenders – I think K is another very eye-catching, attractive offering – I love the vibrancy, colour, quirkiness and sheer richness of the design, which I think accurately reflects Bradbury’s wonderful prose. FAR better than the limp offerings I unearthed!

      1. No – you’re fine:). I really haven’t used any Ray Bradbury covers – when it was witches, I used Diana Wynne Jones’ Witch Week. And even if I did – it isn’t a big deal… I think it’s fascinating to see what we choose for each subject that’s set, as much as the range of covers we present:)). All part of the fun!

      2. Ha, well in the time honoured tradition of manliness I’ll say I never paid much attention to shoes and technically every cover that has a person on it has shoes but I actually found a cover with a shoe on.😀 Now, bottles for the last theme of the year – sigh!😢

    1. According to the good people at Goodreads it was first published in 1972!

Why am I not surprised that you didn’t like at least one of the covers, sigh, I shall have to find a cover with girly pink and glistening abs on! 🙂
