Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine. Each Wednesday you get to highlight a book that your really looking forward to. This week I’ve chosen:
Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman.
Introducing an instant classic―master storyteller Neil Gaiman presents a dazzling version of the great Norse myths.
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales.
In Norse Mythology, Gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major Norse pantheon: Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki―son of a giant―blood brother to Odin and a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator.
Gaiman fashions these primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds and delves into the exploits of deities, dwarfs, and giants. Once, when Thor’s hammer is stolen, Thor must disguise himself as a woman―difficult with his beard and huge appetite―to steal it back. More poignant is the tale in which the blood of Kvasir―the most sagacious of gods―is turned into a mead that infuses drinkers with poetry. The work culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and rebirth of a new time and people.
Through Gaiman’s deft and witty prose emerge these gods with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to duping others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again.
Now I must admit that I haven’t read a Gaiman book before but I’m a huge lover of Norse mythology and the cover to this book is just stunning. And, so it seems to me like a good place to start. 🙂
The expected publication date is February 7th 2017 for both the UK and US.

Weird story about this book… I was working on my website and wanted to see what kind of layouts and images authors use and I stumbled on Neil Gaiman. I’ve never read any of his books, but… I love Norse mythology and I like the hammer on the cover. And Thor 😍 I actually have a reference to Thor in my fantasy novel. ❤️ A lot of my book is actually based on a mix of Norse mythology and Roman and Greek mythology. I think I’ll be reading this book for sure. And I really like the cover. 🙂 Don’t die of shock all at once. 😂

Holidays? Did you ask for an ARC then? As it’s not out until February – ages away.😢

Ahhhh! I cannot wait for this one! I only discovered NG this year, but I’m working great my way through all of his books. Since you are a NG virgin, I must tell you that audiobook is the way to go as he narrates his own work and he is just bloody brilliant.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’m not an audio book fan though, I’ve tried to listen to them before just can’t get into them.😢
