In solitude,
I stare at the walls,
The cell that surrounds me,
The chains that confine me,
Filled with a deafening silence,
The sounds that once made me smile,
Faded,
Lost,
Sadly,
Now gone,
Hello old friend,
In remembrance,
It’s been a while,
For so many years,
You were the one who brought me back,
My guiding light in the darkness,
An island of clarity,
Of peaceful calm,
An anchor when I was lost at sea,
Adrift in a raging storm,
When I felt dead inside,
My promise to you,
It kept me alive,
Now,
It’s empty,
Cold,
Alone,
Nothing lasts forever,
Time takes us all,
Even memories begin to fade,
As the years slowly drift away,
What is left,
Just broken bricks,
Crumbled stone,
This place,
This abode,
In solitude,
No longer a home.

Beautiful poem. As a fellow owner of a Border Collie I hope the one in the picture is safe and sound with you, Drew.

Wow. I… I feel so alone reading this. I think that’s the point, though. Well done, Drew! I am certainly moved.

Woohoo, I evoked emotion.😂 Yes, I was feeling alone when I wrote it so that was what I was trying to convey.

You are so brave. I don’t know if I would feel comfortable sharing that with the Internet. I can’t wait to read more of your poetry– but I hope you feel less alone!

I was just having a morose day and decided to put it into words. Lots of poetry on my blog. 🙂

Oh, I know. I just wish you happiness is all. Plus, poetry is always better when you are caught unawares.

This is so, so beautiful, and really powerful. I’m not a big poetry reader, but really need to read more of your poetry, Drew. It’s incredible.

Thank you, I like to class poetry as my original blog content as I’m not really quick or good at thinking up post ideas but poetry while only in the simple rhyming style is my creative outlet.😀

Loved this – the structure reminded me of sand in an hourglass so that it represented the memories as time slips away. Beautiful.

So powerful. You should put a warning because even though I know you master words, they always trigger emotions and reading this in a room full of people was silly of me 😦 ❤

This is a heavy hitter Drew. Evokes so many emotions, even a few personal moments came flooding back that I was not prepared. Well done and so beautifully written ❤

It really was Drew. You have managed to develop a fondness for poetry in me that I never knew I had. I am always blown away by your ability to articulate so many feelings in such a way.

And that way being simple and rhyming.😂
Thank you, I’m glad I manage to get feelings across, there is feeling in what I write, some far more than others, some with just a line or two that have meaning to me but this one was completely about how I was feeling at the time of writing it but just because it has feelings I’m never sure I convey them so it’s good to know that I do and people don’t just think oh God another poem.😂
