Friday Face-Off 16th December 2016.

facoffnewlogonov16bred

The Friday Face-Off is a new meme created by Books by Proxy, where the idea is to compare the UK and US covers of a book with each week  being a certain theme, this week’s theme is: “give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” – a cover featuring shoes.

For the theme this week I have chosen: Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Book 1) by Marissa Meyer.

Cover A:

Cover B:

Cover C:

Cover D:

Cover E:

Cover F:

Cover G:

Cover H:

Cover I:

Cover D:

shoe3

I like the very simple black and white style of the cover but if I was to pick one that fits in with the theme, then Cover A would be the winner.

And, yes, if any of you have got this far I am well aware that I have had to use a Young Adult book for the theme this week but it was the only book that I could find with shoes on it, so laugh away my fellow bookish peeps that you are seeing a Y-A book on my blog! 🙂

Thoughts?? Agree?? Disagree??

  1. Oh my goodness! I had no idea there were so many covers for this one… Congratulations on unearthing them all. And many are beautiful, too. But for me – it has to be the second cover, which is the one I’m most familiar with. I love the slight jolt every time I see it, and the funky font that works so well with this lovely genre mash-up:).

  2. Oh my, the apocalypse is near! A YA book on your blog?? Really, Drew? 😂 I’d go with cover B because I own it and it’s gorgeous, but C’s colors are so good too.

      1. Yes cleanse it a bit 🙂 it’s a bit strange seeing it here.

I’ve managed to like YA but I think it’s because it’s easy to get through quickly whereas tomes like ASOIAF take me a while to read. When (not if) WoW comes out, expect radio silence from me for a week or so lol

  3. Lol! Yea man, I had to double-check it was your blog I’m on when I saw Cinder featured lol. I prefer cover A but with the shoe from cover B since Cinderella had a glass slipper.

  4. I giggled when I saw Cinder as your pick lol cause I would’ve NEVER IMAGINED hehehehehe *evil laugh*
I like Cover A buuuutttttt I’m going to choose the American cover and stick to Cover B. It’s really pretty in person lol. I know you don’t use the word pretty buuuuuut it’s PRETTY!!!

  5. Cover B is the only cover that I’ve seen on this book, so that’s probably why it’s my favorite. But I also really like Cover A.

  6. I had no idea this book has so many covers. I definitely don’t agree with your choice. It’s a bit of an eyesore for me. Nothing nice at all happening on it. It sort of reminds me of those cards psychiatrists use when they want you to figure out what the shapes mean. Lol Not that I have experience with that but looks like the ones I’ve seen on tv. 😂 Ha! That makes me sound crazy. Lol

    1. Rorshach cards, or something similar.😀 Ha, I had to pick one, I wasn’t picking one with a shoe on it, I’m a male, if I was being an ass I could have just used any fantasy cover with a character on it (as long as they weren’t barefoot) as technically they’d have been wearing shoes but I filthed my blog up with a Y-A book.😂

Lol, your American Jilly, you’re all crazy!😂

  8. I’ve not read this but it did spring to mind for this week’s theme. I figured it would be one of the choices! Cover B is the one I’m most used to seeing around the place but I quite like cover F for being a bit strange.

  9. This is such a fun idea to compare all the covers, I actually didn’t know there were this many versions.
    p.s. I like cover C

  10. 😂😂😂 You’re so cute! Some of those covers aren’t real! They are covers by art students and designers. The ones with the dolls def aren’t.
How could you pick the plainest cover of all??
This was a great post bc I didn’t realize that you would ever choose a YA cover. And honestly, some of the art student covers are amazing. I would want someone like that to design a cover for my book.
Doesn’t the witch one look like Maleficent? 🤔

    1. Aren’t the covers real??🤔 I got them all from Goodreads! Ha, yeah, Y-A, I was stuck for the theme, not many ‘manly’ books have shoes on them.😂 Ha, I’ve got to agree, the Witch does look like Maleficent, I guess that means I’m admitting to watching the film to!😂

      1. Hey there is nothing wrong with the film! I’m glad you saw Maleficent! Means there are cool men out there!
They were on GR?? Hmmm…I googled the covers once when I was doing a lesson plan, and the doll ones that came up said they were from a graphic designer for a project…I guess I’m stumped there. Especially because there’s no way to tell what country they are from. But now I’m stumped. You might be right. 🤔
I’d love to see other YA covers on here…there is nothing wrong with it, I promise! I used to read “adult” books, but I have found YA to be quite well-written. I think it might surprise you…what the hell, start with Cinder! 😉

      2. Yeah, they were all from Goodreads, I guess it’s weird but that’s where I got them all from.😀 Ha, I like a few Disney films, not sure that makes me cool though!😂 Ha, last week’s face-off is a Y-A cover to!😂
