A Poem: Broken Soul.

bs

To erase the hurt,

I turned my heart to stone,

In seclusion I realised,

I’m doomed to remain alone,

Can’t be put back together,

The fractured pieces of dreams,

Are scattered remnants,

Left buried forever,

Destined to remain unwhole,

No-one wants to love me,

A lost and lonely,

Broken soul.

I was told once that you gotta hit rock bottom to come out alive (I’ve said this across a few blogs as of late for some reason, hmm), but that when you’re there… at the rock bottom, it’s also easy to get used to it and stay there… I was warned and I didn’t believe, until I did… I think this poem kind of made me think … especially the lines:
    “In seclusion I realised,

    I’m doomed to remain alone,

    Can’t be put back together”

… that sometimes it’s all in how we think things are, without realizing we’re dooming ourselves as our own worst enemies…

anyway, thanks for sharing this one. Sent me down a memory lane for sure 😀

    1. Ha, I think I’ve seen your hitting rock bottom comment on at least one blog, I think it might have been Danielle’s blog post but I’m not entirely sure.

Yeah, we are most certainly at times our own worst enemy, definitely agree with that as it applies to me, no matter how many times I’m told I’m a nice guy, I just don’t believe it.lol😂

      1. Yeah… so much darkness happening right now…
Will the bloody summer ever come and deliver some happy vitamins?

Well, if you don’t believe me I’m not going to say you’re a nice guy!… However… have you heard about the trick some people use? You know, put loads of post it notes around your place with ‘I am a nice guy’ written on them and when you see them all the time, you will believe it! 🙂 😀 Can’t imagine you doing this though… but don’t worry, we’re all here to remind you!!! You’re a nice guy, Drew! Believe it or Queen shall deal out punishment 😀

      2. Eurgh, summer with its pollen and brightness and having to do the gardening and cutting the grass, Yuck!😂 Darkness rules!🤘

I think I’ve heard about the post it thing, positive reinforcement and all that.😀

Ha, the Queen will deal out punishment! Running with this now aren’t we, what monster I have created by using the Queen name!😂

      3. Hahaha, aren’t you a ray of sunshine? 😀 Although yeah… I’m not much of a summer person either… spring more like it… cool enough with nice enough weather… but I love cutting grass… haven’t done it for like 10 years now after moving from Estonia, but grass cutting was 6 hours well spent for me, fond memories 😀

Oh, I plan to fully put the Queen label into a good use, Drew! 😀 at least on the days when I can be arsed to deal out snarky comments… 😀

  2. Liz makes such a truly valid and important part. I was at the bottom for a while. I have been divorced and dealt a few shitty hands. I found eventually that I was guilty of holding myself there. Even though the only way to go was up, I had learned to take comfort in even my darkest hour and began to cling to the only thing that was constant in my life, pain. This poem is a heavy hitter for me. Much love to you as always good sir.

  3. Its been many years since I felt every single word in your poem Drew & yet the memories of those dark times are very real & very vivid. Your poem has made me reminisce, that’s powerful.

  4. This is such a beautiful poem, Drew. I love how you manage to make me feel things every single time I read one of your poems (and I’m not a huge poems reader. so that’s very good ahah) 🙂
