Book Tag: Blogger Stats Book Tag

book tag

This is a brand new tag created by Stuart from Always Trust In Books, you can find a link to that Stuart’s own tag !!HERE!! And as always, if you don’t already then please go and check his blog out, it’s well worth giving it both a look and a follow.

The rules as per Always Trust In Books:

This tag is 20 quickfire questions regarding your very own book blog. There are very few rules. Just answer the questions, nominate as many people as you want and have fun doing so.

1). The Last three books you read:

The Boy On The Bridge by M. R. Carey (review to come this week).

31554413

The Dragon’s Legacy by Deborah A. Wolf (review here).

29429675

Skitter by Ezekiel Boone (review here).

31116029

2). Spoilers or Spoiler free?

I’m not a fan of spoilers, I always aim to just give a brief overview of the story being told, and try my best to stay away from spoilers in my reviews.

3). How long have you been book blogging?

Nearly fourteen months now, I started The Tattooed Book Geek back on March 5th 2016, if interested you can find my blogging anniversary post !!HERE!!

ttbg wolf small size

4). A book you read in one sitting?

51r+Ru4wWtL

Danse Macabre by Laura M. Hughes. I’m not a quick reader and as such, I don’t finish books in one sitting so the answer to this question has to be for a novella! You can find my review !!HERE!!

5). Your favourite genre?

I will shout it loud and I will shout it proud all day long FANTASY!!!!!

fantasy is awesome

6). Preferred book size? (novella, tome…etc).

This is a tough one, being a fantasy fan most books I read are hefty style behemoth tomes in length, which I enjoy, but for a more exact page count, I’d say between 500 – 600 is the best for me, plenty long enough but not that damn long.

7). Amount of books on your TBR pile?

To many, just far too many, sigh, there is and always will be too many books and not enough time!!

8). A book you have DNF’d?

61Y6EeHYQuL

I have been very fortunate with books and DNF’ing then since I have started blogging, I haven’t DNF’ed any, struggled through a couple but finished them. So, we have to go back before I started blogging, and the only book that I can remember not finishing is The Silence by Tim Lebbon. I didn’t agree with something that happened during the course of the story, I’d say my exact thoughts were along the lines of ‘no fucking way‘ and so I stopped reading, sadly really as it had been a good book up until that point.

9). Recent awards or milestones?

Somehow my blog recently (on April 20th) achieved 50,000 page views, not many to some but to me it’s a crazy amount when I didn’t think anyone would ever bother with my blog!!!!!

10). Best interaction with an author you enjoy?

John Gwynne reached out to me through Goodreads after I had reviewed Wrath, thanking me for the review, praising it and thanking me for supporting The Faithful and the Fallen series on a whole, it was a personal message and a really nice thing for him to do. Nicholas Eames wrote a blog post about Kings of the Wyld – awesome book, find my review !!HERE!! And how it had been doing since publication, sort of an update and a thank you, he mentioned and thanked lots of cool people and huge blogs, and also included me, again a really nice gesture, and to be included with some of the names on the list was wonderful for me and my small blog. Finally, Deborah A. Wolf, as you can see her book The Dragon’s Legacy was one of the three I recently finished, I posted my review on my blog and Goodreads on Thursday (20th) and on Amazon UK for its UK release on the Friday (21st), shared the review to Twitter wishing the book a happy UK publication, Deborah quoted the tweet, and I replied that I also had the privilege of being the first and so far only review on Amazon UK, due to that, she then offered to send me a limited signed book plate for the book, which she had no need to do and really is an awesome gesture.

11). Average number of books you read per month?

Ha! Here is where you all get to laugh at me and pay me back for the sarcasm! I’m a slow reader, fantasy books are long, and so I manage about a book each week, so 4 on average per month. I await your disdain and derision! 😉

12). Top three publishers?

Oh my, another tough one, I’d have to say Orbit, Gollancz and Tor but it seems unfair having to choose as each and every publisher publishers some great authors and books!

13). Social media sites your blog uses?

Come say hi!

TwitterGoodreads, Blog Facebook, Personal Facebook.

14). Average amount of time you spend networking?

Probably on and off around one to two hours a day, it depends if I’ve posted and have comments to reply to on my blog as well, then it’s more. I also admit that it depends on my mood, if I’m not entirely feeling it (there’s a reason I often right dark poetry, hello unhappiness) and since I also started to feel jaded with blogging, I’m still trying to get back into the swing of things after taking a step back. I do enjoy sitting there with a cup of tea/coffee and browsing blogs though, I also work mornings (6am start) and often browse blogs before work, while others might read yesterdays newspapers, I read blogs, gotta get the priorities right! And then through out the day and evening, flitting in here and there to stalk! 🙂

15). Most comfortable blogging position?

Oh my!!! Well, there are countless sarcastic and totally un-PC answers that I could give, however, in the interest of showing some decorum, and with it being a Sunday afternoon I shall answer with, on the sofa, slouched in my corner, plenty of room for anyone who wants to join me, it’s comfy! 😉 Oh well, there goes my attempt at being PC!

16). Music or quiet when writing reviews?

Quiet when writing the actual review/occasional discussion, but when drafting up and formatting posts then music, metal and rock baby!!! Check out The Bitter Man by Any Given Day, Died in My Sleep by Demon Hunter and The Sound of Silence by Disturbed, this is the sort of stuff I listen to.

17). Can you sum up your blogging style in 5 words?

Sarcastic, informal, insecure, honest, awesome! 🙂 Thoughts? Agree? Disagree? How would you all describe my blog?

18). A blog you looked up to starting out?

Everyone, I went into blogging blind, didn’t really know anything about it, then when I started looking at blogs I saw all these amazing bloggers with various different styles, joined in a community together, regardless of their preferred genre as mutual book lovers.

19). The best book you have reviewed so far?

27411345

Wrath by John Gwynne (The Faithful and The Fallen #4), this is the final book in the quartet, it’s my favourite fantasy series and it was my book of 2016, enough said! You can find my review !!HERE!! and also my top ten books of 2016 list !!HERE!!

20). Best piece of blogging advice?

There’s so many bloggers out there, just be yourself with your own style, don’t try to be someone else, don’t try to be something you’re not, let your own personality shine through in your blog and just simply be you!

I’m not going to tag anyone specifically as I know that some of you like doing tags and that some of you don’t, so I’m going to leave it open to anyone who wants to do the tag, feel free and have at it!

  1. I agree on your sum up, except for being insecure! I don’t see a sign of that! It’s so cool that authors really read your review, took their time to reach out to you and thank you and even wrote a piece and thanked you, soooo cool! You’ve got plenty more page views than me but you’ve really earned it, I’m very happy for your success!

    1. The blogging position was polite, well compared to some stuff that I write!😂

Yeah, it was great, it’s my favourite fantasy series and to get a message from the author was awesome.

Cool, I’ll look forward to reading your answers.😀

  2. Great book tag to do and great answers! Your blog has an amazing following and you’re a great blogger, but I agree with Inge though about insecure, you don’t show that at all just pure awesome 😀 !! Congrats on how well your blog is doing, hope you continue having the same success :). I’d have loved to have done this tag but it would just look weird on my new blog and wouldn’t make sense lol :p

    1. Lol, yeah you have a point, you could still do it though.😀

Thank you, appreciate it, I perhaps hide my insecurities well, especially with my attitude but they are there, lurking around every time I post, it’s weird, I don’t feel insecure about posting poetry, what I’ve wrote has meaning to me, it’s great when it’s well received and people get the meaning to, but if it’s not, then it’s not. But reviews…..every time I post one I’m insecure about the writing and how bad it is!😂

  3. This is a neat tag! 🙂 Glad you had a go at it already and presented yourself in a gentlemanly fashion! 😀 hahaha… must have been hard to keep it PC… eh, I’m joking of course… Your blog is fantastic.. you better start believing that you’re great at it!

Books, books, more books… however… lets chat music for a sec… I love Disturbed… but I don’t like their cover of The Sound of Silence.. like at all… 😦

    1. Oh no Lizzy, why not? Each to there own, I really like it, never liked the Simon and Garfunkel original though, but Disturbed are one of the bands I like when they are both loud or mellow.

Lol, doubt I’ll ever believe I’m great at blogging, can’t see it happening, to me I’ll always suck at it, it’s just how I am unfortunately.

Lmao, gentlemanly, didn’t happen, won’t happen, I’m not a gentleman, I’m just me and blah, PC, it’s my blog, I won’t be censored, the PC brigade can take their granny panties and shove them where the sun don’t shine! 😂

      1. Ha… I like the original more! there we have it, mystery solved XD

hmm… you have difficulty with belief… hmm… I was going to suggest something, but it does sound really rude, even in my head XD hahaha… never say never, Drew… one day you’ll feel like a freaking Superman/Spiderman/Batman cross… swinging from the wooden beams like Captain America… and you’ll feel awesome and believe all the good things about yourself!

You know… I doubt PC brigade wears granny panties actually… grannie panties are comfy and when you have comfy panties you’re not grumpy… so, they must be wearing something really tight and uncofmortable to be able to censor and complain all the time XD

      2. Eurgh, Yuck and barf, maybe they g-strings, or even go commando, ladies drop your knickers, oh my officer I don’t need to, I’m not wearing any!😂🤢😂🤢

Go on, suggest away, though if it sounds rude even to you, hell, who cares, we want to know, spill it! 😂

        Liked by 1 person

      3. hahahahaha… you’re hilarious XD XD XD

and nope… I can’t spill it… the rudeness… even as I try to write the word I just feel superbad…
instead, may I suggest meditation with the sounds of ocean and birdsong to recharge your brain into believing yout awesomeness? XD

  4. This was very interesting! Although you think 4 books per month isn’t a lot, I actually think its MASSIVE! Especially considering that you read books the size of a country. However… *high five for slow-readers*!! 😀

  5. 50,000 views!! That’s incredible!! And also, The Sound of Silence cover by Disturbed may in fact be better than the original- love that song. Yours is one of my favorite blogs and I always enjoy your thoughts!

    1. Thank you, appreciate it.😀 I wasn’t sure if 50,000 page views was good or not, never know with all these blogs that get mega stats and I don’t know what is good or not.

I wasn’t a fan Of the original The Sound of Silence, sacrilegious I know, but the Disturbed version is great, for a metal band he has an awesome and emotive voice when singing mellow stuff.

  6. Congrats on 50,000 views, that is freakin awesome!! Oh and I only read about 4 books per month as well, because like you said, fantasy books are usually long. I need to get back to the Wheel of Time series but they take me soooooo long to get through…I think the last one I read actually took me a month! These are awesome answers, and yeah, fantasy is pretty much the best!

  7. I’m a slower reader as well and my favorite genre of books is Fantasy as well (though I stray more towards YA) so a decent page count for me is 400-500 pages. I usually read 3-4 books a month as well.

    Liked by 1 person

      1. Yeah it is, but also a lot of people who read 10 books a month, for example, probably read a lot of contemporaries, which you can fly through a lot quicker instead of Fantasy where you have to think more and take your time.

  8. It doesn’t matter how fast you read, it’s that you read. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. “Good readers read fast” is one of the things my students typically tell me at the beginning of every semester. One of my goals is, by the end, they’ve let that false idea go. Happy reading, yo.

  9. I’ve just started to get addicted to fantasy, and you’re right – they’re so long! I also like listening to music when writing reviews, but usually I’ll put on an episode of my favourite tv show to watch. I’ll usually rewatch Doctor Who while blogging! This was fun to read, I might have to borrow it for my blog!

  10. Once again I refuse to believe you are a slow reader , 4 fantasy books a month is a huge amount of pages read in a month . The best I’ve managed is 3 fantasy books a month and that too involved Dresden books which are not more than 500-700 pages long.😥

Also I love Sound of Silence and also use it while editing my drafts sometime 😎

Cool Tag , had fun reading through it 😬

      1. nothing to feel dejected imo , every one has his/her own speed and style . Besides when people tell me (they don’t but if they did) that I read slow, my reply would be “I don’t read slow , I enjoy my reading more”
