Friday Face-Off September 8th: A cover featuring a City.

The Friday Face-Off is a meme created by Books by Proxy, where the idea is to compare the different covers of a book with each week being a certain theme.

This weeks theme is:

“Take me down to the paradise city, Where the grass is green and the girls are pretty” – a cover featuring a city.

Yes, I used a Guns N’ Roses lyric from their classic song Paradise City! Because it’s awesome, here’s the song:

Whilst getting the covers for The City I noticed that the cover for The Immortal Throne (The City #2) – (which I have a copy of but as yet it remains sadly unread) has the same artwork as the French cover for The City! Those sneaky frogs! A little more sleuthing and they have also used the same artwork for their own cover of The Immortal Throne! Can’t really fault them as it looks really smart! 🙂

  3. Cover E is pretty cool, but I tend to like covers with pops of color because I think they stand out more, so I also like Cover A and Cover D because they have that cool orange fire going on. Also, white covers tend to get dirty, and it drives me nuts, especially when they’re matte! Cover C is also nice, though, because it seems to fit the fantasy genre without being overly generic.

    1. There’s definitely a couple of generic covers on the list, F and G with the characters and it’s questionable who they even are in the book!😂

      Cover A is cool, I just didn’t like the lone random dude on it. He seemed out of place.

      White covers are a nightmare! They look really smart but damn, I agree, they get dirty! They just seem to attract the dirt to them.

    1. It’s probably genetic stock art, I don’t know but it’s definitely sneaky. It’s OK if the French want to use it for their covers and keep the same throughout the series but you’d have thought that the UK publisher would have seen the covers and chosen differently.

  8. I haven’t read this but just judging by the covers (ha) I agree with you, I like your choice best out of them (except the French cover, which is actually the cover for the other one, so I’m not picking it lol)

  11. Oo good song choice! I find Guns n’ Roses are always a good karaoke choice! 😀
    I agree with your winning book cover…the blood splatter, the discarded helmet…it leads to a lot of questions and they’re questions that might entice a reader to pick it up and give it a read 😀
