A book haul featuring the newest books that I have received.
From the publishers:
Shroud of Eternity (Sister of Darkness: The Nicci Chronicles #2) by Terry Goodkind.
Published by Head of Zeus on January 9th, 2018.
Sister of the Light, Sister of the Dark.
The Slave Queen, Death’s Mistress. The formidable sorceress Nicci has gone by many names and faced many challenges. After driving ruthless Norukai slavers out of Renda Bay, Nicci and her companions – the newly powerless Nathan and the youthful Bannon – continue their perilous journey into unchartled lands.
Guided by the witch-woman Red’s mysterious prophecy, the trio makes their way south of Kol Adair towards a wondrous city shrouded behind time, Ildakar. But the grotesque omens on their path to Nathan’s salvation – severed Norukai heads on pikes, a monster born of new dark arts, and a petrified army of half a million – are just a taste of the unimaginable horrors that await within the Shroud of Eternity.
‘And the Sorceress must save the world’.
The Infernal Battalion (The Shadow Campaigns #5) by Django Wexler.
Published by Head of Zeus on January 9th, 2018 according to Amazon UK. Though the included press release has January 25th as the release date.
The Beast, imprisoned beneath the fortress-city of Elysium for a thousand years, has been loosed upon the world and is spreading like a plague through the north.
Queen Raesinia Orboan and soldiers Marcus D’Ivoire and Winter Ihernglass face a betrayal they never could have foreseen: their general, Janus bet Vhalnich, has declared himself the rightful Emperor of Vordan. Chaos grips the city as officers and regiments are forced to declare for queen or emperor. As Raesinia struggles to keep her country under control, she risks becoming everything she has fought against, while Marcus must take the field against his old commander. And Winter knows that the demon she carries inside her might be the only thing standing between the Beast and the end of the world…
Soul of the World: Book One of the Ascension Cycle by David Mealing.

Sarine, a young street artist, only cares about surviving – and staying one step ahead of the law. Yet her hidden powers will draw the attention of both royalists and rebels, and soon she will have to decide whose side she is really on.
AND CHAOS SPREADS ACROSS A CONTINENT . . .
On the battlefields, Colonel Erris d’Arrent must lead the armies of New Sarresant against its rivals in the south. Yet the enemy seems to know her plans before she even makes them. Erris needs to find out how, but the truth will be far darker than she could have imagined.
THREE HEROES MUST RISE OR THE WORLD WILL FALL
In the forests, Arak’Jur wields an ancient magic that keeps his people safe. Yet the prophecies that have always guided his people have become corrupted, and war between the tribes seems inevitable – unless he can find a way to prevent bloodshed.
Blood of Assassins (The Wounded Kingdom #2) by RJ Barker.
Published by Orbit on February 15th, 2018.
The king is dead, long live the king…
The assassin Girton Club-foot and his master have returned to Maniyadoc in hope of finding sanctuary, but death, as always, dogs Girton’s heels.
The place he knew no longer exists. War rages across Maniyadoc, with three kings claiming the same crown – and one of them is Girton’s old friend Rufra. Girton finds himself hurrying to uncover a plot to murder Rufra on what should be the day of the king’s greatest victory. But while Girton deals with threats inside and outside Rufra’s war encampment, he can’t help wondering if his greatest enemy hides beneath his own skin.
I really enjoyed Age of Assassins, the first book in the trilogy and I’m looking forward to continuing Girton’s journey. Oh, yes, I also got quoted in Blood of Assassins! 🙂
What I purchased:
The Chalk Man by C. J. Tudor.
Published by Michael Joseph on January 11th, 2018.
I have seen so many amazing reviews for this book from my fellow book bloggers that I just had to buy it! 🙂
In 1986, Eddie and his friends are just kids on the verge of adolescence. They spend their days biking around their sleepy English village and looking for any taste of excitement they can get. The chalk men are their secret code: little chalk stick figures they leave for one another as messages only they can understand. But then a mysterious chalk man leads them right to a dismembered body, and nothing is ever the same.
In 2016, Eddie is fully grown and thinks he’s put his past behind him, but then he gets a letter in the mail containing a single chalk stick figure. When it turns out that his friends got the same message, they think it could be a prank–until one of them turns up dead. That’s when Eddie realizes that saving himself means finally figuring out what really happened all those years ago.
My Twitter win:
A Time of Dread (Of Blood and Bone #1) by John Gwynne.
Published by Tor/Pan Macmillan on January 11th, 2018.
Set in the same world as the Faithful and the Fallen quartet, the first novel in John Gwynne’s Of Blood and Bone series, A Time of Dread, takes place one hundred years after the end of Wrath.
The Ben-Elim, a race of warrior angels, once vanquished a mighty demon horde. Now they rule the Banished lands. But their dominion is brutally enforced and their ancient enemy may not be as crushed as they thought.
In the snowbound north, Drem, a trapper, finds mutilated corpses in the forests – a sign of demonic black magic. In the south, Riv, a young, tempestuous soldier, discovers a deadly rift within the Ben-Elim themselves.
Two individuals with two world-changing secrets. But where will they lead? And what role will Drem and Riv play in the Banished Land’s fate? Difficult choices need to be made. Because in the shadows, demons are gathering, waiting for their time to rise. . .
I have previously included A Time of Dread in a book haul as I was lucky enough to receive an ARC. However, I am including it again as I was lucky enough to win a competition on Twitter and won a signed finished copy! How cool! 🙂

Yippee – great to see your own words in the book:). I am STILL hoping to get around to Malice this year and I need to continue reading our Django Wexler books – these look like an awesome collection of solidly good reads, Drew:)

Oh man, still hoping! Really need to get on it, such a great author and series.👌📚
It is wonderful to see my own words and blog name in a published book, yay for my little blog.😀
Definitely an awesome collection. I’m not really feeling fantasy at the moment so I’m hoping one of the books rectifies that for me as they look great.

Yes… I’m still definitely feeling the sci fi vibe still:). Odd how we are grabbed by a particular genre for a while – I often wonder why.
