Welcome to TTBG’s Book Blogging Confessions! The idea for this post came about after I made a throwaway comment to Nicki over at The Secret Library that my blog doesn’t seem as popular as a year ago and that I must have sinned as a blogger. She told me to confess my sins and here we are! Thanks for the post idea Nicki!
Me: “Forgive me Father for I have sinned!”
Father Wood: “Well my child, I am here to hear your confessions”.
Me: “That is good, thank you, I have been a bad blogger, some might say even a very bad blogger”.
Father Wood: “OK, you have been a bad boy did you say?
Me: “What? Blogger, blogger, not boy father, blogger”
Father Wood: “Aaaahhh you are a very naughty boy correcting me my child, very naughty! Are you a dirty boy too my child? Perhaps a very dirty boy? Do I need to wash you in my cleansing holy cream”
Me: “Erm……………….”
Well! That didn’t go well did it! The randy priest tried to get jiggy with me! Guess I’d better confess on my blog! 🙂
Confession time!
I can on occasion be a bit of an ass or if you prefer a cunt.
I don’t blog daily! – I know, I know, the shame!
I don’t blog hop daily! – again, I know, I know, the shame!
I swear on my blog.
I occasionally use inappropriate euphemisms and language.
I tend to be sarcastic!
I don’t use perfect grammar.
I tend to be negative at times and don’t adopt the whole happy bright and fluffy attitude that most bloggers have.
I do not have a bright and colourful blog aesthetic. It’s red and black, black is dark and about as far from colourful as you can get and let’s not mention the bloodied teethed wolf in the graphics!
I do not read all of my ARC’s before release date!
I expect authors when they appear on my blog to send me all the relevant information for the posts. – I know, I know, it’s my job to get all the links and info for them as I am merely a lowly book blogger and they are a benevolent author. However, I make them do the work and I know that it is wrong of me. I hang my head in shame, sorry authors, I will rectify this, please, in future just send me the post or excerpt and I will get everything else like the slave I am.
I have previously stated that all bloggers are equal and I know this to be wrong as in-fact there are massive blogs and chosen ones who are far above the lowly scumbag likes of me. I repent my statement, we are not all equal, it is the few over the many, silly me!
I also said that there are cliques in blogging. Again, I was wrong, forgive me my transgressions as obviously there aren’t!
I tend to pad out my posts with nonsense!
I have had inappropriate feelings for book characters. C’mon look at Joffrey in ASOIAF (Game of Thrones if you only know the TV show) sure his gag reflex sucks but damn he’s such a sweet and kind-hearted soul, be still my beating heart!
Not to mention Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter, yum! She is so strict! She’d soon put you in your place! How hot is that! Wowza!
Did I mention that I tend to be sarcastic?!
Finally, I don’t really tend to take this blogging thing seriously.
So there you go I confessed my sins, my soul is clean and I am now a good boy!

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm? ; p No, but seriously. Hope the numbers pick up for you again!

Sarcasm?! Nah, not at all, totally serious as in all my posts.😂
Thanks. I can’t see it happening though. I don’t read as many blogs, etc as I used to (when I got fed-up with blogging I decided to cut back on certain things in order to keep blogging) so I can’t really expect people to visit mine.

I don’t blog-hop like I used to either, just on account of being too busy with my writing. I don’t get the same amount of follows per week as I used to, but my views are slowly going up, as long as I post at least twice a week. Your blog is huge compared to mine though. Maybe there’s a plateau somewhere…

I think there probably is a plateau and there’s always more and more blogs appearing too vying for attention and there’s only so much time in a day to read blogs.

Yeah, over saturation is definitely the biggest issue. As a writer I worry about that every day, it’s always part of my calculations for my platform. I know even if my writing is great, there will always be tons of other writers that are great too. You just have to find that memorable edge, the thing that sets you apart.

Living up to the reputation can be hard eh 😉 Fun post! And I think most of us can relate to quite a few of these haha.

Oh yes, very hard. Just updated the post, the beginning bit now has a bad priest gif!😂
Just a bit of fun post.😀

i have a serious case of the cursing too, and while i try and behave on the blog, it’s not always successful
what i personally like about your blog is really the lack of fluff… fluff is nice and all but not everything need to be soaked in tears of unicorns and such crap 😂

Behave?!😂 I once wrote a post with so much swearing it was crazy and yes, it had a vast variety of swear words too!😂I’m lucky though as swearing is the lesser of my two evils, the euphemisms and nonsense are far worse than a little foul language.
Tears of unicorns and crap, quality!😂 Definitely no fluff on my blog, can’t do it! It’d be wrong. Though I do like f#cking with people so one day I might change my blog header to some bright, garish and pink for a laugh.😂

Those blogging transgressions are what makes your blog unique and stand out from the rest.

I don’t think it is. I think it’s more bringing attention to one of the problems in the bookish community that most people don’t want to bring up or talk about.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, that’s true and there are definitely aspects of this community that people don’t talk about or worse pretend don’t exist.

It’s really bad when that happens. It’s really important to bring attention to those things though.

“I occasionally use inappropriate euphemisms and language.” Pfft understatement of the millennia! To be fair, though, I use a lot of inappropriate language in real life and it was only after reading one of your posts that I realised it was okay to use it on my blog too. Our blogs are an extension of us and we should be able to talk however we want 😀
Also, despite having endured your sarcasm for so long I still momentarily thought you were being serious about your inappropriate feelings for Joffrey and Dolores Umbridge…

FFS! Joffrey and Umbrage! Seriously Sproggy! Obviously, I was being sarcastic! Who in their right mind, wrong mind or no mind would want Joffrey!
Understatement of the millenia, slight exaggeration there Jabz! I’m not that bad and my language or euphemisms don’t get me in trouble anyway! It’s the negative and truthful things I write that do!😞😢
Damn right it’s OK to swear, etc on your blog! I shouldn’t have had to show you that! Why did you think it wasn’t? Cos someone in the blogging community might frown upon it. The world won’t end because a blogger swears, nope. Lots of far worse BS in this community than dirty nasty horrible words that might offend babies.😂

This is awesome. I think I commit a couple of those as well, especially the swearing. I also ramble, a lot.

Bloody way more fun to be a sinner, I say!
I have noticed actually that everyone seems to be a LOT more tied up with professional/personal lives as of late… not saying it as an accusation, it truly seems to be the case and I know it first hand, too… bloody adulting like… i swear last week after work, all I managed to do was feed the man and fall asleep at about 9/9:30PM and I was moaning that I simply had no energy whatsoever to even read a sngle page, not to mention blog hopping and trying to think along enough to comment… something I just rolling in the wrong direction in the world… screw this, lets all become hippies, eat homegrown potatoes and blog more! 😀
And don’t start with the priests man.. I always get fired up when the confession times roll around for kids.. what the hell can they possibly have to f#cking confess? brainwashing of highest order, that!

Ha, yeah, I get you, confessions, priests and all that. I really only added that bit with the priest in for a laugh. Though typing rude priest gif into Google wasn’t a good idea! There was one after the one I included in the selection and I presume it was a continuation of the scene too and the priest wasn’t wearing trousers!😱😱😱 I should have tweeted it actually and tagged the church in it!😂😂😂
Yeah, I totally agree. Personal and professional lives are definitely taking over at the minute. It seems to be a very common thing at the moment. Yeah, no energy sucks. I’ve struggled with that recently and found reading to be hard enough and then you have blogging, an endless cycle of being behind with it and then you have your own posts to do too!

I really don’t think it is just your blog. Compared to last year, my numbers are down too…. but this could also have something to do with the fact I went on a 3 month hiatus and everyone forgot about me lol

Hahaha this post made my evening! And no, I’m not being sarcastic. 😉 Love the gifs, and it’s always better to be unique and alone than unoriginal just to fit in… How on earth could you stand out otherwise??? Being an outsider can have its advantages, like not giving a %&$ when someone is offended by your sense of humor or comments. 😉 I’ll join you and Amanda at the blogging convention in hell for committing these sins as well!! xD

True, I really don’t give a sh#t when people are offended though I’d prefer they take offence to things that are actually offensive and not just stuff that they don’t like.
Definitely true too, I’d rather be unique and original than try to fit in – I don’t think I could anyway.😂😂😂
Lots of gifs in this post, probably spent more time finding the right gifs than writing the post.😂
Cool, it’ll be a bloggers convention as I’m sure we aren’t the only three!

Just wanted to let you know I nominated you (and your sinful blogging ways) for a blog award thing? Still not 100% on how this works, but you can check it out (if you want?) here: https://meeghanw.wordpress.com/2018/02/04/sunshine-blogger-award/

I’d say that I hope you’re forgiven for your sins against book blogging… But where’s the fun in that? Would be far less enjoyable for us to read, were you to play by the rules.

Rules? Ah, rules are merely guidelines that are meant to be broken!😂😂😂 I am free from my sins which means I’m ready to sin again.👌

I think there is a small minority who have written this unofficial set of rules saying what a book blogger should and shouldn’t be and most of the community seem to be jumping up and down to live up to them, many completely unconsciously. I say bollocks to that.
Blogging should be enjoyable, a hobby. If it doesn’t reflect your personality and use your time in the best way for you then what’s the bloody point?
I would genuinely rather have one visitor to my blog who is interested in what I have to say and in engaging in my posts and with me as a person, than a hundred who are just paying lip service to the blog hopping rule. It’s why I don’t visit many blogs every day because the ones I make it to I spend time on and read their posts, I don’t always comment or share but I always read every word.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, I agree, I share at times but commenting is something I suck at but I put that down to if I haven’t got anything to say then I don’t bother but I’m like you, I read the posts I like. There’s a few that don’t, I occasionally get a blogger who will like 10 posts straight after each other and it’s like, no, you haven’t read them!😂
Yeah, it’s probably from a small minority but I wouldn’t like to guess, it could be more but it’s people who think they know everything and state that you need to do this and that, blah blah blah.
Tags are like posts that are taken so seriously by most bloggers and they give serious answers, etc. I absolutely filthed one up last week, just me being me and it’s funny as f#ck but I can imagine the vast majority groaned as its taking something serious that bloggers go crazy over and doing it in my own way.😂 Too much pandering to specific rules that are BS and bloggers who think they know everything.
They definitely jump up and down to conform, I’m not sure it’s subconscious or not as I think some do it just to be popular and to get in with the supposed in-crowd. Especially as lots are carbon copies of each other and all act the same.
A blog should be individual not pandering to the BS of the few. Take this post, anyone who reads my blog will know its my post even if there was no blog name, etc. A type of guess the blogger as its a post that is me but there’s so many out there who you wouldn’t know who the post was from as their blogs are all the same, bright, fluffy and oh so cheerful but lack that individual personality.😞

I don’t bash others for doing or not doing things I do.
I use stars on my blog (which is apparently hated in many of our circles).
But our blogs are our blogs, would be boring if we all did the same thing. Keep being you! Xxx
