Welcome once again to Music Monday where I offer you all a song that I really like. If anyone wants to join in then please feel free to have a go! 🙂
Light The Torch: Die Alone.
Don’t be swept away
The tide has come to claim its own
It’s the end and I’m drowning
Is it too late for me to runIt hates me
It mocks me
And everyday I curse
The sunriseThere’s nothing in the shadows
And you will be the one to die alone
Forgive me when I fall
And I will be the one to die alone
And I will be the one to die aloneDon’t be swept away
The tide has come to claim its own
Can you wash the rain away
I can see the afterlifeIt wants me
It haunts me
And every day I fear
The sunriseThere’s nothing in the shadows
And you will be the one to die alone
Forgive me when I fall
And I will be the one to die aloneFor every broken soul
For every broken faith
For everything that’s died inside meThere’s nothing in the shadows
And you will be the one to die alone
Forgive me when I fall
And I will be the one to die aloneThere’s nothing in the shadows
And you will be the one to die alone
Forgive me when I fall
And I will be the one to die aloneYeah!
For every broken faith
For everything that’s died inside me
Die Alone is a very new song, it was released as a single at the beginning of February and the album that it is taken from (Revival) was only released last Friday (March 30th).
Light The Torch are the former Devil You Know and feature Howard Jones on vocals, he of Killswitch Engage fame. I’m a big KSE fan and love their entire back catalogue whether with Jesse Leach or Howard Jones on vocals. My Last Serenade featuring Leach on vocals got me into the band (it’s a fucking awesome song) but Rose of Sharyn, End of Heartache and When Darkness Falls (a trio of killer fucking tracks) with Jones on the vocals cemented my love for the band and Jones to this day is one of my favourite metal vocalists.
The two albums under the Devil You Know moniker were decent enough affairs with some good songs on them but overall neither grabbed me and they weren’t albums that I could listen to in their entirety.
Saying that, however, Revival, the new start for the band after legal issues and now going under the name of Light The Torch is fucking killer! Revival isn’t just the name of the album it is a revival for the band themselves too with a new and additional focus on melody and clean vocals that works well. Light The Torch and Revival are more commercial sounding than Devil You Know which for me isn’t an issue as quality is quality even if it takes on an added radio-friendly approach and Revival exudes quality.
All 12 songs are awesome with no filler in sight, there’s the aforementioned melody, occasional heaviness, soaring choruses that will stay with you for days, hooks galore, meaningful lyrics, fantastic musicianship from the band and Jones on the vocals be they harsh or clean has never sounded better!
Die Alone taken from the album: Revival (2018).

I love Howard’s stuff. The End of Heartache is a classic metal album. Have you heard the Times of Grace album?

It is, so damn good and yeah, I have, fairly sure I’ve got a copy of it somewhere.😂 I haven’t listened to it in ages but from what I remember it’s a decent album.
