Four new books that I have received from publishers.
Six Tudor Queens: Jane Seymour, The Haunted Queen: Six Tudor Queens Book 3 by Alison Weir.
Published by Headline on May, 3rd 2018.
Yeah, definitely not my usual type of reading material, not sure when I will get to it, it sounds interesting but I’m not sure if it’s for me or even why I was sent it! lol
THE WOMAN HAUNTED BY THE FATE OF HER PREDECESSOR.
Eleven days after the death of Anne Boleyn, Jane is dressing for her wedding to the King.
She has witnessed at first hand how courtly play can quickly turn to danger and knows she must bear a son . . . or face ruin.
This new Queen must therefore step out from the shadows cast by Katherine and Anne – in doing so, can she expose a gentler side to the brutal King?
JANE SEYMOUR
THE THIRD OF HENRY’S QUEENS
HER STORYAcclaimed, bestselling historian Alison Weir draws on new research for her captivating novel, which paints a compelling portrait of Jane and casts fresh light on both traditional and modern perceptions of her. Jane was driven by the strength of her faith and a belief that she might do some good in a wicked world.
History tells us how she died.
This spellbinding novel explores the life she lived.SIX TUDOR QUEENS. SIX NOVELS. SIX YEARS.
Wrath of Empire (Gods of Blood and Powder Book 2) by Brian McClellan.
Published by Orbit on May, 17th 2018.
I have read many good things about McClellan’s work both his Powder Mage trilogy and Sins of Empire, the first book in this series but I haven’t gotten around to reading any of his books yet myself. You all know how it is, too many books and authors and never enough time. I’m certainly intrigued by this one but it is the second book in the series and as I haven’t read the first I will probably shelve it for now until I get chance to pick up and read the first book first.
The country is in turmoil. With the capital city occupied, half a million refugees are on the march, looking for safety on the frontier, accompanied by Lady Flint’s soldiers. But escaping war is never easy, and soon the battle may find them, whether they are prepared or not.
Back in the capital, Michel Bravis smuggles even more refugees out of the city. But internal forces are working against him. With enemies on all sides, Michael may be forced to find help with the very occupiers he’s trying to undermine.
Meanwhile, Ben Styke is building his own army. He and his mad lancers are gathering every able body they can find and searching for an ancient artifact that may have the power to turn the tides of war in their favor. But what they find may not be what they’re looking for.
The Thousand Deaths of Ardor Benn (The Kingdom of Grit Book 1) by Tyler Whitesides.
Published by Orbit on May, 17th 2018.
I will be (hopefully) starting this in the coming days. 🙂
Ardor Benn is no ordinary thief – a master of wildly complex heists, he styles himself a Ruse Artist Extraordinaire.
When a mysterious priest hires him for the most daring ruse yet, Ardor knows he’ll need more than quick wit and sleight of hand. Assembling a dream team of forgers, disguisers, schemers and thieves, he sets out to steal from the most powerful king the realm has ever known.
But it soon becomes clear there’s more at stake than fame and glory – Ard and his team might just be the last hope for human civilisation.
A Sacred Storm (The Wanderer Chronicles Book 2) by Theodore Brun.
Published by Corvus on June, 7th 2018.
I really enjoyed the first book A Mighty Dawn when I read it last year and so, I am very eager to continue with the story in this second book. I also got quoted in the press release and received a signed copy of the book, how cool! 🙂
Forged in fire. Bound by honour. Haunted by loss.
8th Century Sweden: Erlan Aurvandil, a Viking outlander, has pledged his sword to Sviggar Ivarsson, King of the Sveärs, and sworn enemy of the Danish king Harald Wartooth. But Wartooth, hungry for power, is stirring violence in the borderlands. As the fires of this ancient feud are reignited Erlan is bound by honour and oath to stand with King Sviggar.
But, unbeknownst to the old King his daughter, Princess Lilla, has fallen under Erlan’s spell. As the armies gather Erlan and Lilla must choose between their duty to Sviggar and their love for each other.
Blooded young, betrayed often, Erlan is no stranger to battle. And hidden in the shadows, there are always those determined to bring about the maelstrom of war…
Not a book but my recent game acquisition God of War on the PS4. One of my favourite gaming franchises makes a welcome return. 🙂
Kratos has put his past behind him and is now living with his son Atreus in the land of the Norse gods. Atreus has inherited his father’s lineage as a god, but Kratos is determined to protect his son from the rage that has troubled him for years. When their lives are endangered by a series of mythical creatures, Kratos must channel his anger and protect himself and his son. The result is a sequence of the intense, brutal battles that make the God of War series so popular.

Man, I would jump for joy if the Jane Seymour landed on my doorstep! Why did they send it to you and not to me?! 😂

I have no idea! It’s not my usual read.😂

Great haul! The Jane Seymour is a bit different to your usual genre! 😀

Very different!😂

Looks nice. That Jane Seymour book looks interesting. I’m having bad luck with historical fiction lately, but that one sounds like something I would want to read. A Sacred Storm looks interesting as well, I’ll try to take a look at the first book when I’ll have the time.

It does look interesting though definitely not my usual read though I may well give it a go at some point as it’s often nice to take a break and read something different.

True enough. Personally I love historical fiction (I have a BA degree in history, go figure), but I don’t read it much. The few I read in the last 2 years didn’t really live up to my expectations 😦 Except the Sano Ichiro series by Laura Joh Rowland. I like that one. Those are my go betweens when I need a break from fantasy.

I would definitely read McClellan’s original Powder Mage trilogy first.

I’d also need to read the first in the series too.😂

Yeah, but I wouldn’t start there, I would start with the original trilogy.

Wrath of Empire 😍 I would love to have that book on my TBR pile right now. Powder Mage and the first of this series are all really good.
Enjoy 😊

It looks and sounds really good but with not having read the first book I’d like to try and get to that one first before I start it.

Ardor Benn has been on my radar for a while (because fantasy heists!) so I’m looking forward to hear what you think of it. And God of War is so SO good, it makes me want to cry. 😀

I’m not far in to God of War, it’s great so far though very different to the older games.
I hadn’t heard of Ardor Benn until it arrived, it’s a hefty time, 700 pages so I’m hoping it’s good.

I’d totally read the Six Tudor Queens. When I was in college I was hooked on historical fiction and the Tudor period. Even if it’s not your usual forte, I hope you enjoy it.

It definitely sounds intriguing and it’s a stunning looking book so I might well give it a go but it’ll be when I need a break from my usual genres.

The thousand deaths one looks epic, I look forward to hearing what you think. Excellent haul 🙂

OMG, that game looks sooooo good!
I have this thing where i can’t play male characters, dunno what’s up with that, but that’s the main reason why i like rpg/mmo, cuz i play a female. Obviously i’m missing out on a lot of cool shit cuz of this…

Horizon Zero Dawn has a female character and its a fantastic game.👌👍
Lol, that is rather weird and certainly means that you miss out on lots of games. God of War is awesome, one of my favourite gaming franchises going back to the PS2, mythology, killing and more visceral combat.😂

Nice, i have to check out that one! 😀

That first one really is an interesting choice to send to you haha. That’s so cool that you got quoted in the press release for A Sacred Storm, and got a signed copy! Congratulations!!
Also, I need God of War and I need it now! I loved the original trilogy. Spent many an hour playing those games when I was younger.

Yeah, interesting choice definitely sums the book up!😂
Me too, the original trilogy was fantastic and so far this one is too. It’s different to the original trilogy but it’s still God of War and so far is deserving of the hype as it sure has been hyped in review scores.

Nice haul! I did do a double take at the first book though haha. Odd that it arrived. I have had a few random titles end up on my shelves that I have no idea why I was sent. Wonder what happens to make publishers do this. Happy reading 🙂

Lol, yeah, I did a double take when it arrived!😂 I wouldn’t mind if it was a publisher who often sends me books but they don’t which makes it even stranger, oh well, things work in mysterious ways at times.😂

Maybe it will end up being a pleasant surprise should you ever decide to read it 😉

Aaah, I hope you love the Brian McClellan books 🙂 They are so good!
I see everyone going nuts for this game at the moment 😀 And the only thing I can think about is how much the main character reminds me of Triple H!!

Lol, he does now!😂 There was a mash-up done of Kratos and HHH and the similarities are striking!

I read a book about Mary Boleyn written by Phillippa Gregory. It was good. I put Allison Weir on my list on Overdrive.

I look forward to our Jane Seymour review…. but I won’t be holding my breath… that whole liking to live bit and all. 😉
I see your not so subtle hail out in A Scared Storm. Have a good week.

Lol, holding your breath indeed! It’s a definite case of why did they send it to me for that book!😂
