No rambling (yes, I’ve been told I ramble) from me today folks, just a nice short (shortish) list of fifteen blogging tips.

I was told that lists are a popular type of blog post so let us see!…..phew, good job there wasn’t a typo there otherwise I might have inadvertently typed tits or nips! Sniggers! It’s not that sort of blog! Tips people, blogging tips, that’s what I’m looking at today.

If you want tits or nips on the Internet then it’s not TTBG that you need but Google my friends, Google and a box of tissues!😂😉

Side note: You should all praise me on my willpower and sense of gentlemanly decency as after typing tits and nips I really really really REALLY wanted to include a picture of them just for shits and giggles and to be controversial! But I showed some decorum and refrained!👌😂

Ah, shit, I can’t do it, I just can’t! I’ve mentioned tits, there needs to be tits! So! Here’s a nice pair of natural tits for you all! 😉

1). You don’t need to blog daily!

Lots of bloggers manage to post daily, some even more than once a day, praise to them.😀 But for the rest of us, there’s no rule that says you need to post daily and it’s OK if you don’t. If you can and you want to then cool but if you can’t and you don’t then that’s cool too!

Find the balance between blogging, reading, blog hopping and life that best suits and works for you.

2). It’s OK to say no to authors.

As bloggers, we often work with indie authors and you will get review requests. Sometimes you’ll be closed to requests and this will be ignored, the book you are offered won’t be in a genre that you read, or, the book might be in a genre you read but just doesn’t appeal to you. Whatever the reason, we help authors, we share the book love but we don’t owe the authors who contact us anything and it’s OK to say no to them.

3). Be yourself.

It’s your blog, let your personality shine through and blog in a way that makes you happy. We don’t want boring bland ass generic blogger 3,965,875 we want you and your personality!

Don’t try and be the next ‘so and so‘ instead, focus on being the best you that you and your blog can be.

You don’t need to conform to some supposed bullshit about what a blogger should be, how a blogger should write or even what a blog should look like.

Embrace the weirdness, let your personality out to play and write for you! If someone takes issue with it then remember, it is your blog, your platform, your voice and your rules and subsequently this makes it their issue, not yours. You don’t go to someone’s house and dictate how they run it or how they act and the same applies to blogging. There is no need for you to change. Simply say, if you don’t like my blog and me then toodle pip, cheerio, goodbye, sayonara, arrivederci, adios, good riddance, fuck off.😂

4). It’s OK to have different opinions.

Everyone is different, people are bound to have different opinions and views on both discussion topics and books. Don’t be scared to voice your opinion even if it goes against what others think. It’s your own opinion and that makes it valid but remember, whether you are agreeing with the masses or disagreeing be respectful.

5). There are NO bad book bloggers and there is NO right or wrong way to blog!

No-one is a bad blogger, we are all just different and the same goes for how we blog too. What works for one blogger might not work for another and that’s cool. Just because a blogger does things in a different way to you that doesn’t make their blog or them wrong and anyway! If everyone was the same it would be boring as fuck!

6). Just because you have a book blog it doesn’t mean that you can’t post other types of posts!

The world won’t end if you post about your personal life, pets, poetry, health, films, games, music, etc on a book blog. It’s all good and you won’t bring about the rapture! Post what you want! 

7). Popularity.

If you don’t get many likes and comments, etc then that is OK, lots of bloggers do, massive praise to them and congratulations but lots and lots don’t and you know what, that is OK. It doesn’t make you a bad blogger if you aren’t Lord/Sir/Mr/Master/Lady/Mrs/Miss/Madame/Ms popular. Fuck being popular and pandering to the masses.

8). Stats aren’t important.

You shouldn’t stress over stats as they just cause undue pressure but I know that at times and to some extent, we all do. It can’t be helped, it’s natural and having a post that performs really well is a wonderful thing but if it doesn’t happen, well, life goes on even if it doesn’t seem like it.

9). It’s OK to be negative.

It’s OK to be negative in reviews and negativity, in general, is fine but! Be constructive with it and explain what didn’t work for you in the book so that we, as fellow readers know. We don’t want to know that you thought the book was ‘utter shit‘ as that type of negativity in reviews doesn’t help anyone.

The same goes for other types of blog posts too! If you want to moan and be negative then moan and have a rant! 🙂 Most importantly, just be honest, we can’t love ALL the books, it’s not possible, be honest when that is the case and move on to your next read.

10). It’s OK to miss ARC release dates!

We can’t read all of the books (sadly) and just like if you say no to an author if you miss an ARC release date the world won’t end. The mythical blogging police (who don’t actually) won’t come and arrest you for crimes against blogging!

They might arrest me but if anyone asks, I didn’t say it, I wasn’t there and it wasn’t me!😉

11). It’s OK to take a break from blogging.

Blogging can be hard. Factor in that sometimes life gets in the way of blogging (reading too) or you just don’t feel like blogging (reading other posts or writing your own) and when that happens it is OK to take a break. Step away, don’t post, don’t think about your blog, chill, relax, do other stuff and come back to your blog when you want. If people are genuinely following you because they like you, your content and your blog then they will still be there for you when you return.

12). The community and get involved.

Like blog posts, share other blogger’s posts on SM, comment (for me that’s only occasionally as I suck at it and only comment when I have something to say) and partake in the bants. Spread the love and reciprocate, paying it forward.

On the whole, the community is great. There are, of course, a few twats but that is to be expected as we are people and people can be twats but most of us are awesome.

13). Don’t charge for reviews.

For this point, to save any issues over using the male or female term and people subsequently getting either their granny panties or boxer shorts bunched, I shall use both and save myself the hassle! Don’t be an arse and don’t charge for reviews!

14). Read what you want.

Read what you want and enjoy it. We blog because we love books and we read because we love books. Reading is a hobby, it should be fun, it should be enjoyable, this is achieved by reading what you want, simples! 🙂

15). Celebrate your successes!

We should look at and celebrate our blogging successes as they make us feel good about our blog and our ability as a blogger.

Highest total page views, best daily views, you’re pleased with how you wrote a post, you nailed that review, you get quoted, an author/publisher shares and comments on your review of their book, etc. It’s just small things but it’s those small things that can change how we perceive our blog.

If you are having a tough time with your blog and/or think you suck at blogging then a small success can make you feel good about your blog. Praise yourself and your blog and feel good about the things that you achieve.

It’s not gloating, it’s not putting others down, it’s not making out that you are better than anyone, no! It is celebrating your own success and that is OK!
