Welcome once again to Music Monday where I offer you all a song that I really like. If anyone wants to join in then please feel free to have a go! 🙂
Today it’s the Disturbed cover version of the Simon and Garfunkel song The Sound Of Silence from their 2015 album Immortalized.
Disturbed: The Sound Of Silence.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silenceIn restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
‘Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silenceAnd in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silenceFools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silenceAnd the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence
Taken from the album: Immortalized (2015).
And here’s the live version that the band did on Conan:

That’s a pretty awesome cover of a stunningly beautiful song.- I had not heard it before (the cover, not the song!) . Thanks for sharing 🙂

Although I am all for the Metal scene doing covers of old songs, I still prefer the original. This song cover is a beast tho.

Yep, I think it is.👍 The original is great but there’s something about the Disturbed version that’s amazing.

I’m another hermit that hasn’t heard this version – and because the words are so amazing – I love that you can hear every single one. What a marvellous voice!

LOVE this song! It gives me chills every time I listen! The grovel in his voice when he sings “like silent raindrops fell…” SO perfect.
