The questions are:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
1-What are you currently reading?
The World Raven (The Long War Book 4) by A.J. Smith.
I really like this fantasy series, it seems to be quite unknown but I feel deserves more recognition as it really is top quality. This is the last book in The Long War series, it’s started well and I’m loving it so far, so fingers crossed for an epic and satisfying conclusion.
Book Blurb:
All that was dead will rise. All that now lives will fall. The final, epic battle for the Lands of Ro.
The dead god is waking. His power-mad priestess has deployed a mass of men and beasts onto the plains of Ro Weir. Faced with this black swarm, the last remnants of a nation crumbles and falls. This is the final battle for the mortal lands of Ro.
Far to the north, the ice men of Rowanoco muster their Exemplars against the witch’s assassins. In the blistering southern deserts, a squire with no master walks unscathed through a poisoned city. And, in the halls beyond the world, a thrice-born man dares to tread the path of Giants…
2-What did you recently finish reading?
Forsaken Skies (The Silence Book 1) by D. Nolan Clark.
Meh! To this book, it wasn’t bad but overall I really didn’t enjoy it. If you want more info on what’s wrong with it then you can check out my review !!HERE!!
Book Blurb:
Commander Lanoe is one of the Navy’s greatest heroes, but the civil war left him with nothing but painful memories. When a planetary governor is murdered, it falls to Lanoe to hunt down the killer and bring them to justice.
Yet his pursuit will lead him towards the greatest threat mankind has ever faced.
An unknown armada has emerged from the depths of space, targeting an isolated colony planet. As the colonists plead for help, the politicians and bureaucrats look away. But Lanoe has never run from a fight and he will not abandon thousands of innocents to their fate.
Closed Casket (Hercule Poirot Mystery 2) by Sophie Hannah.
I have a soft spot for Poirot after watching the TV show when I was younger and always look forward to delving into a Poirot case. I quite enjoyed Hannah’s first foray into the Poirot character with her novel The Monograph Murders but it wasn’t great. However, this second book by her really is an enjoyable read that I thoroughly recommend. My review canbe found !!HERE!!
Book Blurb:
‘What I intend to say to you will come as a shock . . .’
Lady Athelinda Playford has planned a house party at her mansion in Clonakilty, County Cork, but it is no ordinary gathering. As guests arrive, Lady Playford summons her lawyer to make an urgent change to her will – one she intends to announce at dinner that night. She has decided to cut off her two children without a penny and leave her fortune to someone who has only weeks to live . . .
Among Lady Playford’s guests are two men she has never met – the famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, and Inspector Edward Catchpool of Scotland Yard. Neither knows why he has been invited . . . until Poirot starts to wonder if Lady Playford expects a murderer to strike. But why does she seem so determined to provoke, in the presence of a possible killer?
When the crime is committed in spite of Poirot’s best efforts to stop it, and the victim is not who he expected it to be, will he be able to find the culprit and solve the mystery?
3-What do you think your’ll read next?
A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay.
Well, according to the cover this book scared Steven King, enough said really! Hoping it will be good and scary! 🙂
Book Blurb:
The lives of the Barretts, a suburban New England family, are torn apart when fourteen-year-old Marjorie begins to display signs of acute schizophrenia. To her parents despair, the doctors are unable to halt Marjorie’s descent into madness. As their stable home devolves into a house of horrors, they reluctantly turn to a local Catholic priest for help, and soon find themselves the unwitting stars of The Possession, a hit reality television show. Fifteen years later, a bestselling writer interviews Marjorie’s younger sister, Merry. As she recalls the terrifying events that took place when she was just eight years old, long-buried secrets and painful memories begin to surface and a mind-bending tale of psychological horror is unleashed.

Ohhh, I’m going to have to add The World Raven to my TBR now! And I’m not usually into horror novels but A Head Full of Ghosts sounds like it might be worth it…

I didn’t know that there was a Poirot continuation series, though that doesn’t really surprise me! I am only just starting out with the original Agatha Christie stories, so it’ll probably be a while before I make to any offshoots. A Head Full of Ghosts also sounds really good, I hope you enjoy it!

Yeah, it’s the second book in the Poirot continuation series. A Head Full of Ghosts has a lot to live up to with the Stephen King comment on the front! 😀

I’m glad you enjoyed the Poirot story. Is that a case of an author taking over a series after the original writer passes? Christie’s characters written by someone else? I’ve been seeing a lot of that in the past few years. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!

Yeah, it is, Sophie Hannah took over writing, I believe she was given the blessing by Christie’s grandson, her first foray with The Monograph Murders wasn’t bad but this second attempt with Closed Casket is really good.
