The Friday Face-Off is a new meme created by Books by Proxy, where the idea is to compare the UK and US covers of a book with each week being a certain theme, this week’s theme is a book cover that is predominantly blue.
For the theme this week I have chosen: Stardust by Neil Gaiman.
UK Cover:
US Cover:
The Winner:
For me it’s the UK cover that wins, whilst I do think the ship in the night sky of the US version is a fairly decent cover, I just really like and much prefer the simplicity of the UK cover.
Oh yes… I agree. The ship cover would have been just fine if the book had been specifically for a YA or children’s read – but the UK stripped, sophisticated design suits Gaiman’s prose.

I love your envelope announcement, by the way:)

Thankyou, but alas I can’t take any credit for it, I merely got it of the Internet as I thought it looked quite cool.

Nice choice! I love all the UK covers for Gaiman’s novels. They’re always simplistic but really quite effective! The US cover really does itself a disservice with that terrible typeface!!!

Agreed, it sure is a shockingly bad typeface.

They’re both very nice. But if I saw them on a shelf, I’d go for the ship. I’d be curious about where it’s going.

I like simple too, but that ship! I just can’t resist those old tall ships!
