Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted on Books and a Beat.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Choice: Blaise Maximillian: Bitter Defeat by Matthew Sylvester.

His breath started to come in short pants, adrenalin surging through his veins and preparing him for what was coming next. Every man and dog hated artillery, apart from Vicars and missionaries. Artillery did what no sermon or evangelist could d. It took atheists and converted them in a matter of seconds. All lack of faith disappeared in the face of shell after shell slamming into the ground and rendering man and beast into bloody chunks of flesh.

‘Laugh it up you cheeky bastard.’ Maximillian couldn’t help grinning back, macabre it might be, but being caught up in a gunfight whilst covered in one’s dessert did add a certain humour to the whole affair. Such a damned waste of custard!

Book Blurb:

For 8 long years the Great War has raged. Blaise Maximillian has been there from the start. A bright-eyed and fearful young Ensign, the realities of war change him into a hard-bitten soldier and an even harder policeman.

Detective Inspector Blaise Maximillian of the Combined Imperial Special Intelligence Bureau, now works to protect the British Empire any way he can. Nothing will stop him from carrying out his duty. Not the law, not morals, not even ethics. A flawed man, he will do anything it takes.

    1. Have to agree with you there, it’s not really my usual read either but it was free on the kindle and after the previous book I’dread I just wanted something quite short and easy to read.

Yeah, that certainly is a long teaser! 🙂

  1. I expect this to be a heavily Character driven book , and if it turns out to be in your review , I will definitely pick it up 🙂

    1. It is alternative history yes, it was free on the Kindle over the weekend and it’s quite good. I finished that The Tourist book I had been reading and it was really confusing! So when I saw this was free I thought it seemed a short easy read. 😀
