Waiting On Wednesday” is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine.  Each Wednesday you get to highlight a book that your really looking forward to. This week I’ve chosen:

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames.

Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best — the meanest, dirtiest, most feared crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.

Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk – or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay’s door with a plea for help. His daughter Rose is trapped in a city besieged by an enemy one hundred thousand strong and hungry for blood. Rescuing Rose is the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.

It’s time to get the band back together for one last tour across the Wyld.

The expected publication date is February 21st 2017.

And, yes, even though the font used on the cover for the book’s title looks like it comes straight from a 1980’s hair-metal album cover – think Def leppard, Bon Jovi, that sort of band. I think this book sounds like it shouldbe a great read and I’m really looking forward to it.

  1. lol… I see what you mean about the cover – and the tagline really doesn’t help. Is there more than a jot of humour in this offering? I’ll be fascinated to see how you get on with it…

You say that like it is a bad thing…

  3. Hey! I wrote this book! Hope it’s cool if I chime in. Just wanted to say thanks for featuring it. I hope you get that ARC (I don’t get to decide, sadly) and hope even more that you like it when you get around to reading it. To clarify: it IS funny–or at least my mother tells me it is. I certainly tried to make it so.

The cover art was done by Richard Anderson, which was sort of a dream come true for me, since I buy practically every book he does the cover for, regardless of whether I read it or not. The font is representative of the book’s homage to classic rock–there’s plenty of references throughout, but they’re subtle enough that someone not looking for them (my editor, for instance) has no idea they’re there.

Anyway, thanks again Drew! I’m (supposed to be) working atm, but I’ll look you up on Goodreads later!

    1. It’s definitely cool to chime in, always cool to get a comment from an author!😀

Ah, homage to classic rock, that’s cool as I didn’t mean any offence with the hair metal band comment, I’m a big metal fan and have a soft spot for 80’s band and thought it was an apt description.😀

I am getting an ARC, I’m lucky enough to be on Orbit’s UK mailing list and they’ve said there’ll send me a copy when they receive them.

I know the books not out until February but if you are doing any promotion nearer the release or whenever really I’d be happy to have you guest on my blog for an interview or guest post.😀

  4. Wonderful! Happy to hear you’re getting an ARC–and again, really hope you like it! And I will for sure be down for a guest post or interview around launch time in February. I appreciate the offer–as a first-timer I’ll need to work pretty hard to get my name out there.

And no worries about possible offense being caused! A ‘rock and roll’ feel is exactly what they were going for, and I’m really happy the font gets that across. I know book covers especially are a HUGELY personal preference. I myself am ridiculously picky about them, so should someone take issue with mine I understand completely! I was actually prepared to dislike mine (not a fan of many fantasy covers) but instead I made it my phone wallpaper and spend most days gazing at it as though it were the eyes of my firstborn child.

Thanks again for the ‘Waiting on Wednesday’ pick, Drew. Stay in touch!
