BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THREE THINGS:
1. The police are looking to charge me with murder.
2. No one knows who I am. Or how I did it.
3. If you think you’ve found me. I’m coming for you next.
After you’ve read this book, you’ll know: the truth is far more twisted…
Book Review.
Steve Cavanagh first came to my attention as an author when I read and loved Thirteen by him way back in July last year. Twisted is his latest release and unlike Thirteen which is book number four in his Eddie Flynn series (it can be read as a standalone) Twisted is a standalone and a book that I was eager to get my hands on. After finishing I can safely say that it didn’t disappoint and I found it to be a dark and suspense-filled read.
Ah, Twisted never has the name of a book been more appropriate as Twisted is well and truly twisted.
The short blurb to Twisted is enticing and the book starts with a dedication by the author, J. T. LeBeau. Le Beau is one of the world’s best-selling and most popular authors, thanks in part to the mystic surrounding the unknown identity of the person behind the J. T. Lebeau pseudonym and the books that they write. Books with killer twists, twists that the reader never sees coming. Le Beau is a ghost, someone behind a mask, behind a veil, an elusive enigma. There have been many attempts to discover Le Beau’s true identity by publishers, fans, journalists and the media, all those who have tried, have failed……except for a few and Le Beau will go to any lengths to keep the truth hidden.
The less that you know beforehand about the story in Twisted, the better, go in blind and enjoy the warped ride that Cavanagh takes you on.
Twisted has multiple points of view and it is quite slow at the beginning, introducing us to the various characters and setting the scene for what’s to come. There’s plenty of plotting, planning and scheming happening and then the story reaches a point where Cavanagh takes the breaks off. Then, business really starts to pick up, the pacing quickens and the action intensifies with the twists coming at you thick and fast like an out of control runaway freight train with a crazed driver behind the wheel hurtling along the tracks.
Twisted isn’t a book where character development is at the forefront. It’s not the main priority and quite honestly, it isn’t needed. There is enough to bring the characters to life, to colour between the lines, for you to get a feel for and for you to form a picture of them but whether or not you trust most of them is another matter entirely. The main focus in Twisted is on the story and the twists themselves which are used by Cavanagh to create an addictive and highly entertaining real twister of a story.
You may have a handle, a grip on what you think is going on, where you think the story is going and then, that grip slips and the rug is pulled out from under you. Throughout the course of the book, you will rethink what you read and what you thought you knew about the characters and the story on numerous occasions.
With all of the twists going on it might seem like style over substance, all sizzle and no steak it’s not and whilst, at times you do have to suspend your disbelief Cavanagh is a fantastic storyteller and Twisted a compelling story that will have you on tenterhooks throughout.
You get the sense that Cavanagh had great fun writing Twisted, this bleeds over into the book and the reader will have great fun with the book too.
Twisted is a story that will fuck with your mind, a story that turns you around, spins you this way, that way and sends you corkscrewing, spiralling before hurling you out breathless at the final page.
Purchase Twisted.

Thanks.😀 Ha, very true, I don’t go into detail about the plot in my reviews anyway but this one, damn, the book is based on the twists, mentioning anything would spoil it.😂

‘Ah, Twisted never has the name of a book been more appropriate as Twisted is well and truly twisted.’ that was basically my entire review :p It was my first book by Steve and I can’t wait to read Thirteen (waiting in my Kindle!) Fab review, Marshie! x

Brilliant review! I love thrillers where you are taken by surprise, you think you know what’s going on but suddenly the story line changes completely. This book has been on my TBR list for such a long time and you have made me want to start reading it!

Awesome review!
I didn’t realize it was a standalone so thanks for pointing this out 😃. I only read the first book in his series and kept seeing this one around and it had such good reviews, so it’s good i don’t need to catch up on Eddie first 😁
Also i haven’t actually known Le Beau, so I’m off to investigate those books. Woo! 😄

I think the books in the series can be read as standalones too. At least, I’ve only read Thirteen which I think is the fourth book? And easily picked it up.
But, yeah, this is a standalone and really fun too.

The blurb, short and intruiging as it was, made me want to read this. Your review made me certain I have to read it.
Onto the TBR it goes.

Yeah, I really am. I might not be in a few days, ya never know as it often creeps up unannounced but at the moment I’m good. Thank you for asking.😀
How are things with you?

Glad to hear so 😁. Yeah, I get ya. I tend to think in terms of “right now”. As in right now I’m ok. Who knows in a few days. 🙂 I caught a cold but otherwise I’m good too. Thanks for asking. 😘

No worries.😀 I should have asked or, at least commented on your meme on Wednesday. Sorry, I suck at commenting and things like that.😂
I’m glad you’re good too and yeah, right now is the way to go. At least, I think it is as when you’ve been unhappy you look at how you are currently feeling and if you’re doing OK right now it’s all good but you know as well as me that it doesn’t mean you’ll be doing OK in a couple of days.
Hey, it’s Friday tomorrow too and you like Friday.😜 I’m guessing you still don’t like Monday’s!😂

Hey, it’s okay about my meme. Don’t worry about it. In fact, you’re one of the few people who always comments on my posts. You’re a little ray of sunshine for me lol 😛
Yes, I still hate Mondays! Just today, I was looking into ordering a t-shirt that says just how much I hate Mondays 😉

Excellent review Drew! I don’t read a lot of thrillers, but when I do I want that “shock factor” where you are thrown for a loop. It sounds like this one fits the bill 🙂

Thanks.😀 Yeah, definitely a shock factor for this one. It’s a book where the twists and shocks take centre stage and it is a really fun read.
