The Friday Face-Off is a new meme created by Books by Proxy, where the idea is to compare the UK and US covers of a book with each week being a certain theme, this week’s theme is: “nomad is an island” a cover featuring a wanderer.
For the theme this week I have chosen: The Stand by Stephen King – (lots of wandering in this book/stunning masterpiece). 🙂
Cover A:
Cover B:
Cover C:
Cover D:
Cover E:
Cover F:
Cover G:
Cover H:
Cover I:
Cover F:
This is the cover that I own but it’s also the one that fits the theme this week and hence, it is my winner. 🙂
Thoughts?? Agree?? Disagree??

The paperback copy I have is cover I… and I like cover A! not sure how much cover A is fitting to the book though.. I haven’t read it yet but soon… soon 🙂

You will start it soon…..a book that length can’t be read soon or quickly! 🙂
It’s an amazing book – I hope you enjoy it when you do read it. 🙂

Well, i sure am excited to start it.. probably xmas time… I did try one of King’s books not so long ago and gave up quite quickly… because something just didn’t sit well… can’t remember the title, but I hope this one will knock me for 6!

Oh no, I hope it wasn’t The Green Mile??? That’s an amazing book to or if it was Salem’s Lot that’s Jill’s favourite King book! 🙂
Ah, xmas time, it’s a perfect xmas read. 🙂

Nope, defo wasn’t the Green Mile 🙂
Salem’s Lot sounds familiar… or maybe it was It… hmm…

Ah, I can’t comment on It as I haven’t read it, I know it’s another hefty tome like The Stand though.

you know what.. it was The Talisman I tried reading… the blurb looks good though so I probably gave up too soon on it…

I’ve never heard of that book.😂

Now you have 😀

Sorry to interject here, but the Talisman was also co-authored by Straub. That might explain your reaction to it.
And I concur with Drew, you are in for a treat with The Stand.

no problem 😊 you may be right in that!
Thanks for another vote of confidence for The Stand! 😀

While I’m no King fan junky, I am reading one book of his a year and so far The Stand has stood head and shoulders above all the others…

Drew, you pick well here! I love the book, it is an amazing story, one of my favourite Stephen Kings, and I have read a lot! F wins it for me too! It adds to the feeling of desolation and destruction in the book.

It’s one of my favourites to, that’s why I picked it, it’s just such a great book! 🙂

I agree with you that Cover F definitely fits the theme for this weeks Face-Off. Although I did like Cover D but it definitely does not scream wanderer nor do the other covers. Great post!

Ah, only one of the covers needs to fit the theme!!! – which I learned many moons ago after trying to find damn books where all the different covers fitted the theme! 🙂

D and F :). So how many pages does this book count again? 😉

About 1200 and 21000 Kindle locations if I remember correctly! 🙂 It’s a hefty tome!

I actually like cover A a lot, but I’ll always be partial to the original hardcover (cover B without the “complete and uncut” line)

Cover F definitely fits the bill but gosh I LOVE cover A! this book certainly does have a lot of covers. I’m even beginning to fancy cover C LOL!

Lol, at least it doesn’t have as many covers as it has pages! 🙂

My fiance is reading this book. We watched the movie when I visited him two years ago. I like F and A.

D is my favorite again this week! 😀 I like the cover you picked though too!

I really like the casual way cover F draws you in and makes you curious about the story. Really though, I think I prefer cover C, which might be because I like it better and might be because I like blackbirds and crows. Or some strange combination of both 😂

Lol, all covers are good for this book though, it’s a stunning read. 🙂

Can’t argue with that 😉

A captures my attention best, but agree, F best fits with the theme.

F is a winner! I was not inspired by any of the other covers, it looked a bit off!

I agree with you on this… although A gives off a nice “spooky” vibe. I have B sitting right here. Damn that book is big and heavy. What a loooonnnngggg read that was.

Worth it though, it’s one of my favourite ever books. 😀

Definitely worth it! Bragging rights though for sure hehe.

I don’t know this book, so it’s a bit tricky to judge the cover accurately – but I really like cover A.

Oh no, you haven’t read King’s masterpiece that is The Stand!😢 For shame!😂

I’m taking myself off to the naughty step, forthwith…

For would have been my second choice. I like E

Can’t stand A myself. I prefer B simply because that is what I read. I like the cover you chose though, as it is as bleak as the story.

Ha, some people like A but I have to agree with you about it!😀

The Stand is great fiction! And I love seeing all the different covers.

My favorites are C and D but I liked your choice too. That design reminds me too much of the UK editions of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series!

Haha – I looked at this one – and would have picked exactly the same cover (between you and me I had a sneaky suspicion you might go for this one as I’m sure I’ve read it’s one of your favourites). I haven’t read this yet though – I’m on the naughty step with Sarah.

I more like cover A, but I agree with your choice. I’ve watched the movie but never read the book.

It’s probably easier to watch the movie with how long the book is! 🙂

I’m going with cover D on this one. Sorry, dude! I think that one is the best. I like a lot of King’s newer covers that they made for the big print paperbacks. And I’m also glad there’s another King book for the face-off. You still need to read Salem’s Lot. Get to it!

Oh my, a comment on a most hated meme, I am shocked!😂
Ha, yeah, I need to read Salem’s Lot and you still need to read The Stand!

I bought you a copy of Salem’s Lot so you have less of an exercise to read it than I do The Stand. 🙂

True and I shall look forward to reading it.😀

I own Cover E and have had it a long time…but I haven’t read it. It’s so long that it has always intimidated me! 😂

Lol, lots of King’s books are long.😂

I know! I read Needful Things…I think that’s the longest King book I’ve read, actually. I loved Eye of the Dragon, though. Have you read it?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I haven’t no, I’ve read The Stand by Stephen King though, it’s 1,200 pages in length.😂

Wow! That is CRAZY long. Well, I recommend it. It’s an awesome fantasy book, and it’s what got me off horror and into fantasy forever. I’ll check out the Stand…but I hope you check out Eye of the Dragon. Judging by your taste in books, I think you’ll really like it. From what I can recall (I’ve read it s couple times, but it’s been awhile), it’s about an evil king and he spies on people through this Dragon on the wall. I loved it when I was younger…and of course, there wasn’t YA really back then for me to read, so I read King and Koontz, and authors like that.

Thanks, will certainly add it to the TBR list – have to admit that apart from his Dark Tower series (which I haven’t read) I didn’t know King had wrote any fantasy. 🙂

I love the newer covers of Stephen Kings books so I’d have to agree with you but I also like the ones and that are themed like cover C, they’re quite quirky!
