Friday Face-Off 4th November 2016.

facoffnewlogonov16bred

The Friday Face-Off is a new meme created by Books by Proxy, where the idea is to compare the UK and US covers of a book with each week  being a certain theme, this week’s theme is: “nomad is an island” a cover featuring a wanderer.

For the theme this week I have chosen: The Stand by Stephen King – (lots of wandering in this book/stunning masterpiece). 🙂

Cover A:

Cover B:

Cover C:

Cover D:

Cover E:

Cover F:

Cover G:

Cover H:

Cover I:

Cover F:

This is the cover that I own but it’s also the one that fits the theme this week and hence, it is my winner. 🙂

      1. Well, i sure am excited to start it.. probably xmas time… I did try one of King’s books not so long ago and gave up quite quickly… because something just didn’t sit well… can’t remember the title, but I hope this one will knock me for 6!

      2. Sorry to interject here, but the Talisman was also co-authored by Straub. That might explain your reaction to it.

And I concur with Drew, you are in for a treat with The Stand.

  1. Drew, you pick well here! I love the book, it is an amazing story, one of my favourite Stephen Kings, and I have read a lot! F wins it for me too! It adds to the feeling of desolation and destruction in the book.

  2. I agree with you that Cover F definitely fits the theme for this weeks Face-Off. Although I did like Cover D but it definitely does not scream wanderer nor do the other covers. Great post!

  3. I really like the casual way cover F draws you in and makes you curious about the story. Really though, I think I prefer cover C, which might be because I like it better and might be because I like blackbirds and crows. Or some strange combination of both 😂

  4. Haha – I looked at this one – and would have picked exactly the same cover (between you and me I had a sneaky suspicion you might go for this one as I’m sure I’ve read it’s one of your favourites). I haven’t read this yet though – I’m on the naughty step with Sarah.

  5. I’m going with cover D on this one. Sorry, dude! I think that one is the best. I like a lot of King’s newer covers that they made for the big print paperbacks. And I’m also glad there’s another King book for the face-off. You still need to read Salem’s Lot. Get to it!

      1. Wow! That is CRAZY long. Well, I recommend it. It’s an awesome fantasy book, and it’s what got me off horror and into fantasy forever. I’ll check out the Stand…but I hope you check out Eye of the Dragon. Judging by your taste in books, I think you’ll really like it. From what I can recall (I’ve read it s couple times, but it’s been awhile), it’s about an evil king and he spies on people through this Dragon on the wall. I loved it when I was younger…and of course, there wasn’t YA really back then for me to read, so I read King and Koontz, and authors like that.

  6. I love the newer covers of Stephen Kings books so I’d have to agree with you but I also like the ones and that are themed like cover C, they’re quite quirky!
